Alaska continues to blow my mind. Taken a few weeks ago while flying around with the amazing team at @vspeed.us over the Alaska Range and the Kichatna Spires.
The view looking down Matanuska Glacier. Was lucky the clouds decided clear up just enough to show the peaks. The difference between the telephoto lens vs the wider angle is pretty cool too.
Swipe right to see the wide and where @lisabao and I camped.
Exploring the @matanuskaglacier in southcentral Alaska is both serene and exhilarating. It’s like stepping into another world, with beautiful blue sculptures of ice rising from the frozen landscape. I hope this beautiful glacier will be accessible for generations to come, but glaciologists say that Matanuska has been steadily shrinking approximately 32 feet (10 meters) annually since the 1960s because of climate change.
I have been asked about where to purchase prints of my work. I have finally updated my website, linked in my profile. Also, I officially enabled my Instagram Shop and Facebook Shop so you can browse right here.
I know I probably over preach this, but I am constantly blown away by this device. Ever since the iPhone 6, I have been trying to push the limits of technology and the iPhone 12 Pro Max is no exception. When I worked on my iPhone 12 Pro Film & Photo Series, I was ecstatic with what I could capture with it. Now, playing with the iPhone 12 Pro Max and Apple ProRAW, it’s hitting marks I could never imagine with a “phone” — especially the dynamic range. Even without ProRAW the dynamic range is just amazing. Computational photography really is something ♂️.
I have never been one to choose sides when it comes to cameras. Most people know I have always been a Canon user, at least for my personal kit. I have used a Pentax 645z for a year and recently worked on the Sony Alpha 1 launch campaign as an aerial cinematographer. For many of my productions, I use a mix of Lumix cameras as well. When it comes down to it, I use whatever is requested or whatever fits the job request and spec sheet. I am not sponsored by any camera brand and most of these projects are personal.
Here ate few shots from a recent trip to @matanuskaglacier with my friend @jenleahy.
Check out my full series from this shoot at Matanuska Glacier last week, link in bio.
Exploring the ice “Arch” with @jenleahy. This incredible feature is part of @matanuskaglacier. Hopefully we can move towards better environmental habits so these incredible places can be with us for many many years to come.
I have probably been to @matanuskaglacier a dozen or so times, but all during summer months. Finally getting out here in winter was definitely a surprise. The features you are able to explore are beyond incredible and would be un-assessable in summer. I’ll be sharing more shots from this day soon. But here is one of my many favorites to get the ball rolling.
Thanks @jenleahy for hanging out and showing me around and of course the awesome crew at @matanuskaglacier for accommodating us.
I sure do love being back in Alaska. So many amazing memories and adventures over the years here. This night was from a few years ago with some amazing people, exploring and trying to find a place to climb on Valdez Lake.
