The famous Philco Predicta. The first tv with a picture tube detached from the chassis, and the first tv with a swivel screen. It has become an icon of mid century design. This model was called the debutante, and it was made in 1959. It still works too!

I chose to construct a vintage television set madeentirely of used VHS tapes of children’s movies. My goal for this project was to remind viewers of the many nostalgic childhood movies that in this case are destroyed. The cover photos for each movie can be seen as a collage through the broken screen as you approach the work closer. This piece hopefully will remind people of how fleeting their childhood was and how fleeting memories from their childhood were. I also hope the viewers can then contemplate how media is changing for the following generations that will not have the same relationship with VHS tapes or older Disney movies like our generation has.

It was transmitted at the end of the broadcast day and at regular intervals during the day, so TV owners could calibrate their sets, and broadcasters could check their signals. Each part of the transmission had a function.
