Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway in the Rain by TheTimeTheSpace At Disney, when it starts to pour rain, most people run for cover. Reflections of Spaceship Earth and Monorail by TheTimeTheSpace Typically, when life gives me a puddle, I lay down in it and take a picture. When life doesn’t give any puddles however, sometimes you have to find the next best thing. These now extinct Leave a Legacy “monuments” at Epcot’s entrance do nicely with providing a bit of reflection and adding additional interest to the photo. Wendy Walks the Plank by TheTimeTheSpace Eagle eyed Disney parks fans may be looking at this photo and thinking something looks different. Since I’m all about full disclosure when I change things in a photo let me explain… On our last trip in March we did the paid after-hours event, which was the perfect chance for us to ride Peter Pan multiple times with no wait. I was finally going to get all the shots I have missed over the years on this ride. Imagine my disappointment when I saw that the show lighting for this scene had an issue and was casting a horrible shadow across Wendy’s face. Looking at the photo later on my computer it was killing me that I would have to let this shot go to waste as I loved everything else about it, besides the shadow cast on her face. I made an attempt to fix it but the shadow was just too harsh and it wasn’t happening. I finally had the idea to take Wendy’s face from the next scene and transplant it into this scene. I kept the bow and carefully cut and aligned her face from the other scene into this one. I had to do a bit of color matching as well as shadow cleanup to match but I think it turned out great and I’m really happy with the final result. https://flic.kr/p/2jzU8MX

Partners in Noir by TheTimeTheSpace This is another shot I’ve sat on for a while. I originally processed it in color a little over 2 years ago, didn’t like it, and then would occasionally look at it to see if I changed my mind. Recently I had the epiphany it could potentially be a great black and white and set to work. I used Silver Efex from the Nik Collection and ran two separate passes on the base color image with 2 different color filters, one for the background and one for Partners. I masked those two together, made levels adjustments, did some dirt cleanup on Walt’s back and was done. Now I’m more than happy to share it. https://flic.kr/p/2j7NiMK

Colors UnTangled by TheTimeTheSpace This shot was another fun exercise in correcting the wrongs of Disney’s lighting team. Once again, the lighting team dug into their warehouse of discount blue lighting to bathe Rapunzel’s Tower in its boring light. I pulled up a reference photo from Tangled and used that to color correct the tower as accurately as I could. I think it turned out really nice and it also helped separate it from the blue sky where it would have otherwise been lost. https://flic.kr/p/2j3itR8

Mickey & Minnie’s Great Movie Ride by TheTimeTheSpace I had literally just setup for this shot and started my first exposure when it started sprinkling. By the time I had taken my second exposure (for the sign) it was turning into an absolute washout. This worked out great for some other shots, but it definitely doesn’t work when your framing involves pointing the camera straight up into the sky. One additional frame would have helped with some problematic highlights, but I made it work with the 2 frames I had with a bit of color painting.
