DRYADIX IS HERE I FINALLY FINISHED THEM

So just like Sirenix and Harpix, Dryadix is earned through a quest. Elemental quests are traditionally initiated through the corresponding elemental companion, but a “cheat code” exists in the Elementix Compendium to kickstart each of the quests with out a companion (if the fairy already has Harmonix obvi). The Dryadix quest requires a fairy to create a crystal seed out of their magic, grow the seed into a plant with at least one flower bud, and present the plant to the Source of Dryadix on planet Magix. Unlike like the sirenix pearls and harpix feathers, there are no riddles to solve to get a seed, instead the Elementix Compendium details crystalline magic creation and plant care. There would still be some kind of virtue trial in order to get the plant to grow but its literally just like. Patience, dedication, nurturing, etc, just the regular stuff to take care of plants anyways so it’s pretty straight forward.

Design! I’ve described Dryadix before when talking about Daphne and the elementix here but designing this transformation was a journey, the final results have serious differences compared to the original sketches I did. I actually ended up throwing some aspects of the “magic of joy” transformation from the comics in there? not a lot and only as i needed but I wanted a kind of ethereal feel to this one despite being the “earth” transformation for the elementix.  Basically, the updated Dryadix includes: loose hair styles with optional braids, a flower crown, a cropped vest type thing (neck collar bone and shoulders), visible ribcage filled with flowers, simple solid bottoms with some kind of waistband, a sheer multi-layer skirt, one sheer sleeve, solid color socks, pretty basic shoes limited to style lines as decoration, and a glove/bracer/arm thing that matches the boots and socks. The fairy wings resemble plant matter and have more glow-y veins than typical wings. Flora’s plant based biology is reacts strongly with this transformation, transforming her hands, feet, and ears into vines and branches (her eyes, if they were open, would have flower shaped pupils).

I actually had a couple of requests to do a redesign of the winx club. I was originally only gonna do Tecna and Musa, but I ended up doing sketched for the rest of the girls too and with Fate coming out not that long ago I figured now’d be a good time to post them.

General: I watched winx when i was younger, but don’t remember much of it, so please don’t get mad if you’re a winx superfan and part of my design doesn’t make sense. Everyone gets fairy ears that are common in their respective magic dimension.( Bloom’s ears are still fairy ears they just look similar to human ears. Musa’s ears look like some mix of Stella and Flora, but it looks like they’ve been clipped on the sides.) None of their outfits really match, but that’s fine cause what connects them this that sparkly mesh material.

Tecna: oh boy I’m really not good with that technical/digital aesthetic with clothing, so I don’t think I really knew what I was doing with her. I never liked Tecna’s original design, so I kinda designed her with the idea of ‘ What would make her look cool to me?’ I did always like her wings though so I wanted to look similar to her original ones.

Musa: She originally had baggy pants and a cropped spaghetti strap shirt with a red mesh shirt over it, but I thought that look was done alot with other people’s designs, so I opted to give her a baggy jacket + skirt and sheer leggings instead. Her wings are records and the bottom part is supposed to be reminiscent of sheet music (I know there are more lines lol) It’s a little on the nose, but I don’t care cause it’s cute.

Aisha/Layla: Aisha was probably the hardest to design cause I really didn’t know what I was doing with her. Her sketch has a skirt with a cloud looking hem, that was supposed to be like seafoam. I ended up scrapping that though cause I thought the skirt looked kinda ugly and didn’t fit with all the other designs. She ended up getting pants with sheer flowy legs. I still think the teal part of her pants are a little plain, but I still think it looks better than the skirt. I was gonna lean her color palette towards blue cause her original outfit was just straight green? Turns out the green can work if you pair it with other oceany colors. Her wings are basic butterfly because water looking wings are hard to draw.

Flora: She had the best costume in my opinion, so I just added stuff to what she had already. The middle segment of her dress was meant to look like a petal as were her wings. When I was coloring her was about the time I decided everyone gets a sheer sparkly clothing piece, so there’s some sort of correlation happening. 

Stella: Blue, added lots of blue. She represents the sun and moon, but there is hardly any moon in her design. She almost had heterochromia, but I thought that was too much blue. And yeah I know gladiator/goddess Stella is overdone, but it works well for her. Also I thought it’s be fun if the fashionista of the group was also the fighter. Get you a girl who can do both. Dragonfly wings cause I think they fit, maybe I should’ve gone with moth wings?

Bloom: I can’t remember what, but I know Bloom had a trait about her that was related to a dragon, so she gets a medieval aesthetic. Knight armor + princess skirt and crown + dragon/fire inspired wings. Bloom’s also supposed to look more plain jane in design compared to everyone else.

The Fire Fairy 

Winx Club was a huge part of my childhood (and maybe a more-than-just-a-tiny-part of my adulthood?), so when I heard that Netflix was going to do a live action remake, I was super excited  I still haven’t caught it yet, and I’m honestly not sure if I want to, since they seem to have deviated a lot from the original story  Bloom was my favourite Winx girl at first - and the most iconic of them all, I would say - but Musa is definitely my favourite today  Which Winx girl should I draw next?

“I don’t understand why everyone see Aisha as «strong» or «rebellious» because she came off as quite the opposite to me: literally her introduction episode she is weakened and powerless, and she collapses in front of Alfea! She then spends the rest of the season basically being useless for plot convenience: she keeps tripping, falling, crying and failing at everything unless the other Winx are there to help, doesn’t transform until episode 3, repeatedly fails at rescuing the pixies after five episodes and other things, which isn’t exactly the best way to introduce a strong character… And it doesn’t help that the writers keep using her as a plot device, tossing her about like a rag doll in the rest of the series. 

They keep giving her reasons to be moody or upset, shove her fears or insecurities in your face to a level that you never see with the other Winx, and everything else about her personality seems fake and forced… Just admit she’s a tragic, depressed character already.”

“I disliked when in Season3 episode 18, Stella suggested Aisha to date Nabu (or something like that?), when Aisha clearly wasn’t into dates (she literally was unhappy with the kingdom setting her life in season 3 ep9), and the Winx were supposed to focus on VALTOR, not on someone who they saw for the first time. I know Aisha warmed up to Nabu later and were together until Season4 end, but I hated this situation tbh”

“I think the reason why many fans are demanding Nabu to return (despite being dead) is because he never even got the chance to finish his subplot with Aisha and I’m appalled Rainbow decided to throw it out the window in favor of him dying because they thought he was too “rElAtAbLe” and “wInX cLuB cAn`T hAvE GoOd rElAtAbLe cHaRaCtErS aSiDe fRoM bLoOms PaReNtS,cAuSe iT`s fOr lItTlE gIrLs - tHeY wOn`t nOtIcE iT!!!“. I’m just hoping they’ll change their minds one day and realize killing him off was a terrible decision.”
