Here is my piece for the @womenwantedzine. I was the illustrator for Makino’s profile. I had a lot of fun, especially since this was my first ever one piece project I’ve worked on. I decided to go with the look of the one piece anime, as it started out in the 90’s, by it’s use of watercolour in the backgrounds. The poignant scenes like the characters having flashbacks, especially were beautiful and I personally loved that touch added, so wanted to replicate that in my piece for the zine, to give it a look as though it was someone’s nostalgia. I am happy I got to draw for Makino; she may not be a pirate, marine, princess or warrior, but she played a big role in Luffy, Ace and Sabo’s childhoods, as an older sister figure to them and continued to look out for Luffy, even long after he left to start his own journey. Couple that with her cute relationship with Shanks, who may or may not be the father of her son, I’d say Makino is a pretty instrumental figure to how one piece began, at least from the perspective of how Luffy’s quest to become pirate king began. Even though she may worry about those that she loves, as they have taken on dangerous professions, it never falters her own life and work, which she gets on with; I admire that about Makino, that she’s an independent, kind, caring and mentally and emotionally strong person. I love that she’s just a normal woman, who works in a bar, who just happens to have a lot of connections to a lot of pirates.

This is the main illustration on our double-page for Bonney. I also did a portrait, her jolly roger and a title border with food doodles. I was teamed-up with @onceabluemoonwrites who wrote a really nice story !

I finally got around to making my Carrot charms from the One Piece @womenwantedzine into earrings! They make perfect earrings because they’re nice and light! Plus, they’re super cute!
