It kinda is BS though because Yoshi doesn’t even save the world in that game. They just save their magic fruit tree.

Original illustration from Nintendo of America’s official site for Yoshi’s Story in 1998. Note the “Yoshi, the Web Pet” option on the left; unfortunately, this was never preserved and can be considered lost media. The only information available on that functionality is anecdotes from people who used it in 1998, who report that it was a Tamagotchi-like Yoshi pet that needed to be fed fruit, and appeared as a collection of GIF animations made out of Yoshi’s Story official artwork. Below are the few surviving GIFs from the functionality.
