ARE YOU TELLING ME VIKTOR NIKIFOROV WAS BORED AT A PARTY WHEN HE MET A DRUNK ADORABLE BOY WHO KILLED IT AT THE DANCE-FLOOR AND MADE HIS LIFE ENJOYABLE FOR THAT ONE DAY SINCE AGES, DEVELOPED A CRUSH, AND GOT HIS HEART BROKEN WHEN THE BOY TURNED HIS BACK ON HIM THE NIGHT AFTER IN AN AIRPORT JUST TO WATCH THE BOY DANCING TO ONE OF HIS PROGRAMS SO HE PROMPTLY LEFT EVERYTHING TO GO AFTER HIM AND STAY BY HIS SIDE AND THAT’S VICTUURI’S CANON STORY? I AM SO GLAD? I AM NOT WORTHY? THIS IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL STORY I’VE EVER WATCHED? MY SOUL WAS SAVED.
If Yuuri had won gold, he would have been able to say mission accomplished, and felt alright with retiring.
If Yuuri had won Bronze or not made the podium at all, I think he would have decided he was incompetent and just reflecting poorly on Victor as a coach.
By having Yuuri win silver (with a score not even a full point below the score that won gold)
Yuuri neither feels like he accomplished his goal, nor like his goal is out of his reach, thus making him continue for another season for skating meaning another season for the anime. I think there will be a season two, and that may very well be the final season where Yuuri wins gold.
