As a philosophy, it treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise.

I was sold on Sokka somehow duping Season One Zuko into buying his Absolutely The Best Hunter™ cat (this sales pitch presumably being a distraction while Katara and Aang run away in the background).

And Zuko starting to shoulder-carry this cat EVERYWHERE.

(To Sokka’s eternal frustration, this random cat he pulled yowling from a trashcan is, in fact, an EXCELLENT Avatar hunter.)
