Lucien’s birthday countdown pt. 5
Lucien might have controversial perspectives on ethical issues and use out-of-the ordinary ways to reach his goals.
But one thing is for sure.
This man is a smooth talker and is loaded with a strong rhetoric. Off all the LIs, Lucien has always been my favorite in terms of finding the right words. If Lucien gives a lecture, I’m always in.. For a polite amount of time.
So Number 6 spot is one of my favorites.
#6 Language of Love
Even though Lucien isn’t one to mum about his love, there was one instance that came out of nowhere and hit me really hard.
It was this message from him for double seventh in 2021 ENG server.
It just summarizes Lucien so good!
Be it him confessing that MC owns his soul. Accepting that he is a matter-of-factly eccentric man (btw it is amazing to be eccentric, the world is a fun place thanks to them). Be it redecorating his whole flat, or wanting to lock down the butterfly so his only source of color doesn’t leave, or sacrificing most of the humanity for the future of the race, be it turning into bubbles like the mermaid… These eccentricities are all part of his soul, he knows that and yet also these parts of him, he offers to MC/YOU.
All the silent times, all the wavering he has when he cannot be close to MC, when his world consists purely on different shades of grey devoid of color.
Lucien, an aloof, seemingly emotionless man, rediscovers his soul and his mind with the introduction of a single person into his life. He is unsealing the feelings that were unbeknownst to him from which he himself gets astonished no matter how often he experiences these.
All thanks to one person, to whom he offers his soul…

#7 A Scene of Deep Love
Before I say anything can we please first all agree on the fact that BGM and VK write amazing music for MLQC?
Many times I find myself playing this game’s OST when I’m reading, writing my long posts or just for pure relaxation.
This song is one of my favorites and is my main page audio since the day it came out.
Maybe it is the sample of it which resembles Blue Temperature, maybe the slightly dark tone followed by an autumn-y sound thanks to a transverse flute (fun fact: Lucien is displayed playing one on the poster of the 3rd anniversary concert).
The first minute of this song just captivates me everytime I listen to it. But then the cello sound enters the mix and finally the flute introduces the chorus. It’s just so beautiful.

Lucien’s birthday countdown pt.3
Lucien’s lore revolves heavily around symbolism and a collection of contradictions. Which is why his actions leaves us poor producers and MC in confusion since we never know for sure what is going through his mind at any given time. Lucien doesn’t ever let anyone see through him, he is a man of enigma and I’m so glad that he is the way he is.
There are two fictional characters that symbolize Lucien throughout the story and I think one of them fits him better than the other.
#8 The Little Prince
First things first… Lucien is neither a prince nor little. It’s not why I think he is a depiction of this character. Rather it’s because of his out of place being, Quest for understanding everything, learning how to love and his devotion to his rose.
You see, I think Lucien sees himself both as the fox and the little prince in this setting. He’s both an alien learning to love, but also the fox who lets himself be tamed and starts feeling various emotions which aren’t favorable to him as a result. Lucien is the who tames himself by using his feelings towards MC as an utensil in doing so. MC doesn’t try to tame or change him. She tries to understand him and fails graciously swh.
Spoiler alert: In the story the Little Prince doesn’t return home but the Autor wants to believe so, thus encasing himself in an illusion voluntarily. See the similarity here to Lucien post CH18 in the real Loveland?
I also like how he quotes the book from the scene where the fox tells the Little Prince about how monotonous his life his and asks him to tame him, so that the wheat and the wind has a meaning, much like his monochromic life and MC being the only color in it. The whole text goes like this:
“My life is monotonous,” the fox said. “I hunt chickens and men hunt me. All the chickens are the same, and all the men are the same. So I get a little bored. But if you tame me, it will be as if the sun came to shine on my life. I shall know the sound of a step different from all others. Other steps send me hurrying back back underground. Yours will call me out of my burrow, like music. And look there! Do you see the wheatfields? I do not eat bread. Wheat is of no use to me. Those wheatfields remind me of nothing. And that is rather sad! But you have hair the color of gold. Think how wonderful that will be when you have tamed me! The wheat, which is also golden, will remind me of you. And I shall love the sound of the wind in the wheat…”
I just said above that in my opinion Lucien is both the fox and the Little Prince, so taking this into consideration, when talking about love… He is actually talking about the love one should have for himself before anything else. We don’t ever see Lucien showing self-love to himself so it raises the question: How can you love someone, when you haven’t learned how to love yourself? That’s why I believe when Lucien asks MC to teach him how to love, he is actually talking about loving himself. This is what he is struggling with, this is where he wants to start and this journey is indeed a long one full of wolves.
So yeah, this allegory between the quote and Lucien’s stance as well the whole paradox between Lucien’s mind and heart are just too intoxicating and I love it!
