every time I try and catch up on aso I remember skip and it’s like. I hate skip I do. I hate the concept of him. imagining if you got taken over by a brain slug and everyone was like good fucking riddance and they thought that other brain slugs out there are unethical but the one in your brain isn’t because they hated you that bad. literal nightmare hell on earth I’d rather die
it’s like what if they afforded the other guy who was also confused and disoriented when he was taken over by HIS brain slug sympathy and condolences even though he tried to kill them multiple times. but they don’t even think far enough ahead to consider that you are going through a similar locked in syndrome and they are just going to leave you in there like that for the rest of the foreseeable future, because they don’t think enough about you to remember to care. you take up so little space in their mind that it does not occur to them that you’re still in there screaming to be let out while they’re off on their crusade to give personal autonomy to androids and roombas and everyone but you, because you don’t register as a person to them anymore. and you know that their version of a happy ending is and remains a future where they never have to think about you again because they like the creature that is controlling you that much better. a starstruck odyssey is a fun space romp but it implies things that are deeply existentially terrifying for me

so extremely humanoid-centric of us to just take it for granted that a brain slug would be a solitary, unmotivated creature without a culture, home, community, name, or social position. love to have my assumptions challenged by science fiction.
