LIVE

Pregnant people don’t deserve to be treated like life-support machines.

Their bodily autonomy and reproductive rights shouldn’t be violated so the zygote/embryo/fetus can survive.

Some moral dilemmas are interesting. I saw a post comparing abortion to a blood transfusion. The example goes as follows:

Person A is in need of a super rare blood type and will die if they don’t get it.

Person B is the only person with that blood type who is available within the limited time frame.

It is up to Person B as to whether they give some of their blood to Person A, as both have bodily autonomy. Person B does not have to give blood.

I find this interesting. While on one hand, I do not believe Person B should be forced to give their own blood, I do think it would be immoral for them to not do so. Evil even.

I feel this situation fails to argue for abortion, but a major reason it fails is I am not sure how to handle the situation. Not to mention, in deploying this situation they are acknowledging that the fetus is a human being.

I dare say, I probably am in favor of some kind of negative action being taken against Person B if they let Person A die. I am unsure what that punishment should be, but I think I do support one.

You can’t force someone to donate blood. There is no ethical way to punish them for not donating blood even if you think it’s immoral. There could be MANY reasons why they choose not to give blood. You might think it’s immoral for them to not give blood, but so is forcing them to.

And just because you think something is immoral doesn’t mean it should be illegal.

And here we see more evidence that the anti choice crowd actually doesn’t understand what the word choicemeans.

Funny though, considering that the pro life attitude in these same situations is usually “you shouldn’t have had sex then”.

Except for foster kids. Who y'all like to trot out on parade to “prove” how abortion isn’t necessary. While ignoring actual fostered teens/adults who are telling you to stop because fostering/adoption has massive issues inherent in the system.

Almost like none of you actually know what you’re talking about. But we knew that already.

Daily reminder, life begins at conception.

Daily reminder, life is a continuous process that began at least 3.5 billion years ago and anyone who says otherwise is preaching religious doctrine and not objective facts.

You don’t have to be religious to be pro life or to not acknowledge science. I personally think from liking science that living things were around far beyond 3.5 million years ago when we consider the study of dinosaurs and sea creatures. A single creature or human is created when our own life begins at conception. (I am speaking of when the sperm and egg join as one, for clarification).

I said 3.5 billion, not million. Important distinction. I realize that not everyone who is against abortion is catholic but they’re still following catholic doctrine whether they like it or not. Also, why start at conception? Isn’t sperm already a living thing? Why not say life begins at ejaculation? Oh right, because this is actually about controlling women’s bodies.

A quick rant bc I can only seethe for so long, but one thing that is steadily making me foam at the mouth about pro-life rhetoric is that if you try to ask why they’re so pressed on conception, it’s a bunch of religious packaging that switches over to a vastly oversimplified “well, science says—“ when it comes to any of the tough questions

And I mean, who doesn’t like science, right? Except that’s the only time they care to evoke it, and they end up neither being scientific nor religious with some fucked up ouroboros of smug self-serving deflection. Like how convoluted do you have to make your reasoning to protect yourself from the fact that you’re making shit up and calling it godly, all because you’re desperate to put yourself back into a position of control and do whatever you want without the threat of opposition? How can you both reference and simultaneously completely ignore two different modes of thinking at the same time, just so you can pretend to be a “good person” while sacrificing nothing of yourself?

If you stick to either one of those ideologies, there’s no foot to stand on, and I have yet to see any policy that claims to be religious that actually is—it’s a relief at least that if Christianity is “The Answer,” all these ppl who twist it for their own comfort and advantage and call it “gods word” will be fast tracking themselves to hell faster than any of us ever will

Just me crying in the bathroom so I don’t wake my partners with this, fuck.

So to sum up: CT and DC have passed laws making it illegal to extradite someone to another state if they are being charged in that other state for crimes pertaining to abortion or trans health care, and makes it legal to sue and get your money back if you are targeted by a TX-style “bounty” law. DC also includes “crimes” of consensual adult sex, gay and interracial marriage and cohabitation and providing or using contraception.

This is, as the thread explains, basically legal interstate warfare. CT and DC’s laws bar compliance with such laws.

This is, on one hand, kind of terrifying, because this is where we are now. It’s going to get worse long before it gets better.

On the other hand… holy shit, someone fucking did something.

Someone fucking did something real.

Okay folx so… this kind of tags has been fairly common on this post.

I’m glad people are checking, but! If you didn’t know, this is what it looks like now if you post a link to Twitter on Tumblr. And!

a screenshot of this post with "view on Twitter" highlighted, it appears right under the text of the tweet itselfALT

If you click/tap on the highlighted bit, it goes to the thread on Twitter, which contains screenshots of the amendment’s text and a link to the full amendment text on the official CT.gov site.

Here are the screenshots of CT’s amendment. The important stuff in the 2nd screenshot is what’s underlined. There is too much text for alt text, it’s on the link above, but the tl;dr is “it covers abortion and gender-affirming health care.” It has been passed and signed by the Governor as detailed on the ct.gov link:

a screenshot of the CT amendment, which is explained and linked above. it won't fit in alt text. ALT
another screenshot of the law, which is linked and explained above. ALT
a screenshot of the CT.gov page linked above showing the governor signed this amendment on May 7thALT

Here’sa link to the press release when the DC bill was introduced from the Twitter thread linked above. Here is a link to an article about it. It appears that this is currently only proposed and not passed.

This is the text of the proposed DC legislation:

So yes, this is very very real, and Tumblr changed how they display Twitter links - the thread had all of this info in it except for the link to The Hill. :)

Real talk if anyone needs to do this, my mom is a real estate and rental agent in Connecticut, I can help you find someplace to stay. I hope you never have to, but if you do, I can try to help.

Hold on, using contraception??! Seriously?

I mean, the rest is BS anyway, but… WTAF?

… yes. Contraception is next on the list.

The right to contraception, especially hormonal contraception, was a hard-fought legal battle and remains a battle. Some places in the US legally protect pharmacists who have a “moral objection” to prescribing the pill or Plan B bc they think that the pill subverts G-d’s will or is an abortifacent instead of anti-ovulation or anti-implantation.

Birth control is 100% Next On A Long List, along with queer rights, trans rights, the right to live with who you choose, and many many other rights. Don’t be fooled.

BOOST!

Oh wouldn’t this be tragic if word of this spread out everywhere possible?

Oh no…my hand slipped…

Remember if you live somewhere where this is an option you need, you need to be keeping a healthy stock of pregnancy tests and using them regularly to catch the pregnancy early enough. It is incredibly common for people to only find out well past 10 weeks. Of course that can be expensive so look for the paper strip type that doctors use, not the bulky plastic types typically advertised for home use if you can. And dont fall for marketing gimmicks with pregnancy tests, they all work about the same, you don’t need a digital screen and if in doubt do another test tomorrow.

(Also do your test first thing when you wake up for best results)

I would HATE for anyone in Texas to ACCIDENTALLY read this…

The dollar store carries pregnancy tests and they’re just as accurate as the ones from the pharmacy, fyi

Having worked in a doctor’s office, can confirm we just used cheap plastic OTC pregnancy tests and the dollar tree has them sometimes for $1.

As a further reminder– (loosely) once the sperm hits the egg and you become “officially pregnant”, pregnancy is calculated by going back to the date of your LAST period.

So if the date of your conception is March 29, but you got off your period March 01, congrats! You’re now 1 month/4 weeks pregnant. That’s how pregnancy is calculated.

And you absolutely cannot find out the day you conceived that you’re pregnant, because it takes at least 2 weeks before your body makes enough HCG to be perceived by a pregnancy test– so that’s another two weeks.

Which means you could have sex, become pregnant, wait the two weeks to test, and be ‘six weeks’ pregnant. That’s right– if you do everything right, and find out you’re pregnant literally as SOON as possible, you can already be 6 weeks pregnant.

“The Texas Heartbeat Act prohibits abortion when there is a detectable heartbeat, which may be as early as 6 weeks into a woman’s pregnancy.” This is why this act is genuinely evil. You could be ‘two weeks out from the date you had the sex that got you pregnant’ and be 6 weeks pregnant.

It’s not likely, but it’s incredibly possible. If you miss a period, it hurts NOTHING to check immediately. Don’t wait. Waiting a single month after your missed period to test could mean you’re suddenly 10 weeks pregnant– or more.

Actually, hang on, I want to talk more–

I went to the aidaccess website. For some states, they can mail the medicine to you directly without a prescription. For others, they’ll do an online consult with a doctor to prescribe and then mail you the medicine.

The cost can be from $110-150.

When you first start the consult, you see this.

We want to look at the second option. Because these are shipped internationally, and as sited on the website due to covid delays, the medicine takes three to four weeks to reach you.

If you find out you are pregnant at six weeks, you must order immediately in order to do a pill abortion at home under the ten week window. However, it gives you the option to buy in advance. Both mifepristone and misoprostol tablets usually carry a 2-year shelf life. The price isn’t THAT much higher than Plan B.

I researched that on my own– the shelf life thing– but was incredibly pleased to see the aidaccess website got into it as well.

Advance provision
1. If you live in a place with a very restrictive abortion law, it can be helpful to have the medicines for a medical abortion in advance case of a future unwanted pregnancy.  In this case you should contact us again immediately when you find out that you are pregnant so that we can give you the proper guidance. Please check the expiration date when you received the medicines (most can be kept up to 2 years after receiving the package as long as they are kept at room temperature and in their original and undamaged blister packs. It is likely that they can be kept for even longer but their effectiveness cannot be guaranteed after that point.

2.If you want the medicines because you had unprotected sex less than 5 days ago, you can still use emergency contraceptives!]

The aidacess website walks you through EVERY PART OF THIS.

If you have $150 to spare, this is potentially live-saving medication. If your current plan is to drive out of state, stay for three days at a hotel to maybe get an in-person abortion after listening to a heartbeat etc, please consider that cost versus this cost. It has a shelf life of two years. I’m considering buying some right now.

I am incredibly moved to know this option exists and am currently about to share it with every social media site I can.

What’s the difference between an anti-masker/anti-vaxer and a pro-choicer?

A pro-choicer doesn’t believe a fetus is a living human being and thus aborting him/her isn’t murder.

An anti-vaccine/anti-masking COVIDIOT knows people who die of COVID are living human beings AND THEY STILL DON’T GIVE A SHIT IF THEY DIE WHEN COVIDIOTS SPREAD COVID.

I’m definitely against legal abortion but I ain’t got shit for this Supreme Court. These same ‘pro-life’ boneheads granted 'bodily autonomy’ for anti-vaxxers, remember?

Even if this decision is overturned and Thanos came and fingersnapped away the states that legalized abortion on their own, so what? Great, so if you’re pre-born, you’re safe, but these same fucknards who are all about saving life before birth are happy to allow all kinds of fourth trimester (aka the rest of your life) abortions. They’ll shrug when some crazed gunman mows down a school full of ex-fetuses or cheer when cops shoot an unarmed black former fetus. And don’t even talk to them about how this capitalist system fundamentally and economically penalizes motherhood, these “pro-life” dirtbags actually like that side effect. They want women back in the home serving them. They don’t stop to think that this dystopian religio-fascist tradcon worldview of women is exactlywhat makes abortion so fucking popular.

Anyone who really feels overturning Roe vs Wade is about saving lives isn’t going to be rubbing their hands with glee about this hypocrisy that’s unfolding. No, they’re going to be looking at the “pro-lifers” of today and they’re going to cringe at the same cold, evil heartlessness and callous disregard for life (“Blue Lives Matter” goons I’m also talking about you) that pro-choicers showed back in the 1990s when this debate first spiraled out of control.

Anyone who really cares about life would have been a Democrat. They would have seen that ending police brutality, a social safety net and free contraception was also a pro-life solution. They would be all for mandatory vaccinations and mask mandates to arrest the spread of a pandemic that has killed 1 million Americans. Because, well, those are all just as pro-life as stopping abortions.

If the SCOTUS does gut Roe this fight has only finished Chapter 1 of a very long novel. And that chapter will have finished on a very hypocritical and disgraceful note.

Hi people!

For anyone looking to participate in protesting for the right to abortion in the United States, you can join the day of action this Saturday, May 14!!

Lots of marches are being organized, please join if you’re able. I’ll reblog this with a a link.

heavyweightheart:

keeping my eye out for the most up-to-date size-inclusive guidelines for pregnancy prevention & termination (pls add on if you have resources), but here’s a quick rundown from a wonderful HAES physician & fat activist:

As the conversation about abortion swirls, it’s a good time to remind ourselves and our patients that plan B is less effective in patients over 155lbs (?!).

The best advice for patients of size until better products are available is to:

- take 2 if you have them.

- take 1 as soon as possible if you don’t have two

- Ella is effective up to a BMI of 30, less effective up to 35. It also can be used with no decreased effectiveness up to day 5.

- Copper IUDs are the most effective post coital contraceptive

- ocps are also less effective in fat patients and may not provide as good endometrial or pregnancy protection

- Progesterone IUDs should be strongly considered in patients of size who want to prevent pregnancy or need endometrial protection, especially if they live or study in abortion restricted states.

- I don’t know the weight significance for abortion pills- looking into it.
