Mermay 2022 - Day Two - Siren

Sometimes my complaints about the redundancy of the prompts may be a little unfair. For example, today’s prompt, siren, is only redundant because I did a siren illustration two Mermays ago. (Not to mention, when I looked for the link I forgot to post it anywhere but Instagram, so, it’s only redundant to me.)

In that one, Jennifer was practicing her siren song by learning guitar. (Though this one was far back enough that Jennifer and her sister Winifred were interchangeable.) In today’s illustration, Doris is discovering that the accordion is not the best choice for musical seduction.

Hungarian postcard. Edition Tempo, Budapest, 1942. Lili Muráti in Az éjszaka lánya (The Daughter of the Night, Frigyes Bán, Palatinus Filmen 1943). Music by Karoly De Fries, lyrics by Kalman Kovach. The film deals with a young woman who is made to forget her past, the men, and that she was ‘The Girl of the Night’.

23/11/17 - This was inspired by some time looking at 60s west coast rock posters, although my version ended up being quite a lot tamer than some of the stuff it drew on.  I guess I’m just too gosh-darned conventional to turn on, tune in, & drop out….

Also I’ve been desperate to use the dancing girl with the accordion for something for ages, so I’m glad she finally got an outing :)

16/11/17 - I love the look of accordions, so I’ve been wanting to use one for a while (as an aside I had no idea how many instrument manufacturers used to rely on pictures of pretty girls holding accordions to shift their products until I started this project).  I was playing around with a tutorial on the text effect & I decided it would all work together quite well.
