anyone have any ideas of how to get beau to use the DIY bench i gave him? has this happened to anyone else?

this is the original house layout i designed for him:

when crafting he took out his own tree stump instead of using the DIY bench that’s right there.

at a twitter follower’s suggestion i removed the cherry light on the wall in case that was interfering, but he still took out the stump. there’s plenty of space to stand in front of it and my villager is able to craft at it. the shelves being at his back shouldn’t affect it bc 1) he’s literally in a corner with a wall to his back and side when he uses that tree stump and 2) all of my other villagers i’ve designed for use their benches, including 2 who have furniture directly behind them when they stand at theirs..

i tried rearranging the house and swapped the positions of the DIY bench with the chair/lamp and yet… he still took out the stump! replacing the diy bench… with a diy bench…

if anyone has any theories as to why this is happening or any ideas of what to try next i would really appreciate it
