hibiko-kokkeine replied to your photoset “Tucker knows what’s up! He’s one of the smarter animals around here…”What does MVP stand for? It’s not a very good joke, and also I’m about to murder the heck out of it and make it unfunny forever. I also kind of wanted to be a smartass and tell you to just google it, but if you do, the top result is “minimum viable product,” and that sure ain’t it.
The real (boring) answer is “Most Valuable Player.” It just means the player who is the most valuable to their team, which may mean for a single team or for an entire league or for the entire sport or whatever. It’s often just used as shorthand to mean “the best person.” It’s not, like, backed up by a lot. It doesn’t mean the one who is worth the most money.
My obsession with the MVP shirt started in January of 2014, when I first started making jokes about Sprinkle wearing one. It was funny to me because her wide body stretched out the design more than most villagers. By May of the same year, Sprinkle was out and Marshal was in, and MVP started standing for “Marshal is Very Pretty.”
In Pocket Camp, the idea of having everybody in my campsite wearing a crown and a shirt that means “I am the best” is extremely funny to me, so I buy MVP shirts and MVP tees every time I see them in the marketplace. Whenever somebody asks for a new shirt, and MVP shirt is on the list, I always pick it regardless of whether or not they would actually like it.
That’s about all that there is to it. It’s just a running gag I’ve had going for four and a half years. Let’s all imagine Marshal is wearing one in this image, and also pay @deenen to draw all of your villagers wearing them, too.
