Looks like there’s some interest in a Tamora Pierce colouring book.

HMM.

I might have to try and make this happen… watch this space! I’ll see what I can do about making more illustrations like this.

Anyone have any suggestions for themes or scenes? I kind of like the idea of the heroines with their animal companions, but of course more ideas would be good too?

Panel 1: Duke Roger is seated and speaking to Ambassador Mikal of Tusaine. Duke Roger is looking very excited with his hands together wearing lots of jewelry. Mikal is looking unimpressed. Duke Roger says “I’m so excited Ambassador Mikal! I just love duels so much!!” Panel 2: King Roald stands up in front of the seated guests and says, “Let us now commence this duel between Sir Dain of Tusaine…” Roger looks very excited. Mikal does not. Panel 3: Roald continues, “… and Alan of Trebond.” Roger deflates, unhappily says, “Oh, Alan’s in this?”

Panel 4: Dain and Alan face each other with their swords on either side of the comic panel. In the middle, Roald stands in front of the seated guests and says, “Remember: no biting, scratching, kicking, no gouging, no headhunting, no punching, no slapping, spitting, no gouging… Alan, I’m talking to you…” Roald’s speech bubbles continue down the page, while Panels 5 - 8 show Dain of Tusaine and Alan of Trebond staring at each other. In Panel 5, Dain looks a little perturbed because in Panel 6 Alan is grinning at him and baring his teeth. In Panel 7, Dain of Tusaine looks very disturbed with a single sweat drop because in Panel 8 Alan is licking his sword Lightning.

Panel 1: Prince Jonathan and Alanna sit in front of a tree at night. The scene takes place at the end of Alanna: The First Adventure. Jonathan says, “Alanna of Trebond –– I will be honored if you will serve as my squire.” Alanna is holding his hand and says, “My life and sword are yours, highness.” Panel 2: Jonathan relaxes and says, “Good. I thought I’d have to fight Gary for you.” Alanna looks up in surprise. Panel 3: Alanna stands up and shouts, “SHIT!! GARY is an option??” Panel 4: Jonathan watches as Alanna exits right from the panel. She says, “bye”

First Panel: George Cooper stands naked in his room holding a pillow in front of himself. Alanna is facing him. “Wait, you’re a girl?” he asks. “Turn around whilst I get clothed.” Second panel: Alanna turns around while he pulls on pants and says, “Don’t be silly George I’ve seen you naked before.” Space below the first two panels: me as a 10-year-old is reading the book and asking, “When the heck did she see him naked?”

Fourth panel: George is buck naked and robbing a nobleman. The nobleman is crying and handing George money and jewelry while George holds a knife to his throat. George is looking at Alanna and says, “Hey Alan!” Fifth panel: George and Solom are doing yoga poses on yoga mats, naked. Alanna has approached them holding a tankard. George calls, “Alan! Join us! It’s Hot Yoga Night at The Dancing Dove!”

First panel: Alanna has her hand on the flank of a horse. She looks overwhelmed and says, “Oh George! Is this the horse you brought for me?” Second panel: George smiles at her and says, “Aye, lad. She’s the one.” Third panel: Alanna walks around the “horse” in awe. The horse is two people in a badly constructed horse costume. “Wow!” Alanna says. “She’s perfect!”

Fourth panel: George is still smiling and says, “And she includes some extra features ––“ Fifth panel: Alanna looks impressed as a hand holding a sharp knife comes out of the horse’s midsection. “Comes in handy during battle,” George continues. Sixth panel: Jonathan stands next to George, eyebrow raised. Seventh panel: Jonathan turns to George and says, “I’ll take one in black.”

The magical ember stone is around her neck. She is decorated with medals. She says: “I have to prove that the King was right to let me keep my shield after I revealed myself to be a woman!” Alanna of Trebond as a knight with Faithful the cat on her shoulder is in the middle of the fourth panel. She is wearing all gold armor and mail chain and the magical ember stone. She is holding a trophy with a blue ribbon on it, a giant magical blue stone, her sword, and her shield with blue ribbons on it, one of which says “Best Knight.” She says: “I don’t deserve to be King’s Champion! A Lady Knight has never been King’s Champion! I’ll have to work extra hard to show everyone I’m worthy!” Below the fourth panel is the artist as a 10-year-old child reading the Song of the Lioness books. The child says, “Gosh, I hope I don’t internalize Alanna’s intense imposter syndrome…”

Song of the Lioness inspired mock-athletic tshirt

scarlet polo with a single yellow border around the bottom and the edges of the sleeves, the number 1 on front and back (first lady knight in more than a century!), the lioness rampant in yellow on the left side of the chest, and the name Trebond-Olau, A. on the back (because her adopted name is just as important to her!)
