Parallel to the Devil, the Dollmaker (the Wonderland version of Bumby) represents animal urges and passions. These urges are already within, the Dollmaker simply gives them a voice. As he (as Bumby) brainwashes and sells innocent children on the streets, he allows the corrupted to indulge in their urges.
It should be noted that this is not always a bad card. Indulgence, in moderation, can be a good thing. Treating one’s self or having some ‘me time’ can be a healing or recharging tool; it is only when these pleasures are allowed in excess that others are hurt or the individual becomes corrupted or selfish.
Dinah – Alice’s cat who, as it turns out, was not the source of the fire, and who in fact saved Alice’s life.
I’m thinking this could be interpreted as Dinah “showing her the way.” The Star card for the most part is about giving hope and a glimpse into the future; inspiration. I’m not sure if that’s too stretched, or if it could work. If not, who or what else could be The Star?
I think I like this version of Alice better. The only difference between this and the first one is that the border is in front of the text here, rather than behind it. I put the border in front of the text on the Cheshire Cat, and now I think I’ll do that for all the cards.
By the way, I’m using different borders from this pack of grunge borders (the link is safe) for different cards. The one on this card (frame 1) will apply to all the Major Arcana. Frame 2 will apply to the Doll suit, frame 4 will apply to the Flesh suit, frame 5 for the Sanity suit, and frame 6 for the Gear suit. I’m not sure if I’ll color any of them.
