I’m liking the black glass for wet-plate, but my source has glass thick enough that I’m going to have to see if I can make it work.  Blue’s pose here is lovely, though, and goes so well with wet-plate!

For all you trying wet-plate out there - just to show that sometimes things just don’t go right.  For some reason the darkslide was pressing against the plate and marred the collodion on what is otherwise a lovely photograph of Rebecca.  After two tries like this, I switched to my backup plate holder and the issue went away.  So hang in there - there’s a lot of troubleshooting, but wet-plate is worth it!

Still getting the hang of using the Petzval lens on the 8x10, but I really like its look for portraits!

Dakota was kind enough to sit for me for some portraits, so one of the things I wanted to do was compare 35mm digital using the Lomo 85mm Petzval lens vs. an 8x10 tinype using a Darlot Petzval (i.e. the real thing!).  Both wide open (why bother otherwise?).  I tried to get things as similar as possible between shots - the digital image is reversed to match that of the tintype.  Just in case you wondered how similar they were.
