Ambition 2 / Mars-Phobos
In the mid 80s, international cooperation between USSR, USA, Japan and a few European countries resulted in a follow-up to successful Ambition 1 mission from a few years earlier. This time the goal was to visit and explore one of Mars moons, Phobos, in hope to find a suitable place for a permanent base on its surface, which would be built by the crew of Ambition 3, mission that would launch in late 1980s.

@thewhitenerd713 sends us two exposures of a Cross-Universe Flux Matrix Entry Zone (Class Megative F/ive/our, from the looks of the argonite ring patterning). Based on the surrounding landscape and the relative height of the individual pictured, I’d say this is from the New Britain Free Zone, and that the photographed fellow is Doctor Salomon Jonas, DDS, FRCD©. Dr. Jonas is one of the few dentists who maintains a substantial cross-universe presence– he collects new dental techniques or interesting pieces of dental ephemera.
I would ask @thewhitenerd713 how they got their hands on this one.

We reached an isolated settlement, whose inhabitants, however, had access to strangely advanced technology and machines. I suspect that one of the engineers working for Tesla is hiding in the village…

In this tale about an alternative history, Winters takes us on a journey through an America in which the Civil War never happened and slavery is still legal in four Southern states, known as ‘the Hard Four’. Victor, the protagonist, tracks down runaway slaves, then calls in their location so the U.S. Marshals can pick them up and return them to their owners. In this novel, no one was what he seemed, which resulted in some confusion.
I didn’t care for this nearly as much as I did The Last Policeman trilogy. In fact, I almost returned it to the library unfinished.
