too-confused-for-this:

I have seen so many people say that Legends of Tomorrow got bad in season 4/5 and has never recovered, and whenever I hear that I feel like they are missing the point of Legends.

I recognize that Legends of Tomorrow is far from a masterpiece, it has plenty of flaws. However, I still think it is an amazing show.

Legends of Tomorrow has changed A LOT since season 1, some say for the worst and I say for the better. Season 1 and 2 were relatively serious in tone, a tone that is consistent across the Arrowverse. Season 3 is when things started to change, and from there the show went off the rails (in the best way possible).

I feel like the writers recognized just how insane of a premise of Legends of Tomorrow is and how different it is from the other Arrowverse shows, I mean it’s a bunch of time traveling superheroes who have broken time on numerous occasions. I honestly don’t think that serious would work for Legends long term.

When Legends abandoned the serious tone for one with a hell of a lot more insanity, that was when Legends became one of my favorite shows. I think that a lot of people go into Legends expecting it to match the tone of the rest of the Arrowverse, so it’s a bit of a shock when the later seasons do a 180 and they don’t feel like it works or that it come out of nowhere.

But what do I mean when I say “missing the point of Legends”?

What I mean that those say Legends got bad because they abandoned the serious tone are failing to understand the themes and purpose of the show. This is a show about a bunch of misfits coming together and forming a family, and while other Arrowverse shows have a found family aspect, it is not in the way Legends does found family. The found family is not the main aspect of other Arrowverse shows, even if they do appear in them, but found family is the core of Legends. The core of Legends of Tomorrow is bright and jovial, which isn’t something that I see in the other Arrowverse shows.

The moment that Legends went off the rails and became the wild show I love, was the moment that Legends became fun. When I would watch other Arrowverse shows there was always a dark tone, something terrible was always happening and often the episodes would end in a dark way. In other words, the other shows didn’t seem “happy”, the moments of light and levity were few and far between.

Then there is Legends, which is the opposite. This show is funny, bright, and fully of joy. It gets serious every now and then and sometimes it will rip your heart out, but there is always a happy ending to mend it. Whenever I watch the show, I feel good. I often come away from an episode with a smile on my face.

The point of Legends of Tomorrow is for the show to be fun, wild, and often times insane. It is meant to be a show with so much crackhead energy you would think the writers are on crack. You aren’t meant to think about it too much, you are meant to just sit back and enjoy a show like no other.

Fans of Legends of Tomorrow know what the show is and most watch it because it makes them feel good. They understand that sometimes it doesn’t have the best writing or storylines, but they keep watching because it’s fun.

Who knows if this made any sense, but I tried.

Oluwande Boodhari is amazing. He talked his crewmates out of mutiny for the sake of a bedtime story. He helped his work friend go into hiding after killing their boss’s husband. He poured boiling tea on a man’s crotch. He threw a rock at the crewmate of one of history’s most bloodthirsty pirates. He wears crocs in 1717. He was bullied into being captain for approximately 3 hours. He helped invent the world’s first pyramid scheme. He plays drums maybe? He keeps his beanie on during sex. He’s incredible. He’s my best friend.

I am literally begging FFXIV fic writers to learn to tag their Warriors of Light and/or original characters in AO3’s character tags and not just in ship names.

Please… Please…
