…wha-? when? that never-? like, why would that-? ugh, as sweet as this could be, studio pierrot have me rubbing my temples too much with this sort of stuff.

i mean, what is the point of this – of retconning any (supposedly pre-existing) substance between hinata and team 7; situating her amongst the main characters and all that it implies, and moreover with naruto in particular? let alone the audacity of it, when it was studio pierrot at the forefront of pitting these girls against each-other in their cavil, disputatious fillers all these years!

canon = two-decade-old established material, and this ain’t it. a friendship between all of them would’ve been cute, and(in-character) fluff can be appreciated by fans. but not when there is an underlying, surreptitious agenda attached – one that increasingly attempts to convince a mass and credulous audience, who aren’t aware that naruto and hinata’s entire canon interaction literally spans less than 1% of the manga, is any more than just that, performed by manipulating these compact retcons enough to impose a subconscious yet lasting effect that supports their narrative of their “significant” ship, which was actually built in its pervasive ubiquity on filler. and hey, i’m not just going off over this picture alone (i’m simply using it as an example; a jumping-off point) – i’m already exhausted of this upcoming contentious arc, which’ll probably be full of drivel like this, when it’s actually supposed to be nostalgic whimsy for fans, not a guise of such; obscuring veiled motives of advocacy for their bias. and that’s not even getting into their present-day filler scenes of naru/hina’s ostensible and reputed domestic life, contradicted and discredited in kishimoto’s material.

sergeantgrinner:

anti-hinata:

sakura:

hinata:

funnily enough, sakura looks better in sp versions. and why are yall using a rough sketch with hinata but a more defined line art of sakura for kishis depiction. but yeah stay mad at breast sizes. rough sketch or not hina still the goat cuz her fans can actually relate to her on a personal level.

so… you just deliberately didn’t reblog the explanation behind the chosen images in a desperate attempt to debunk the matter at hand by clinging solely onto that trivial element? oh, wait, of course you didn’t reblog that addition – which challenges your frail, ridiculous argument – because you stalked the ‘anti hinata’ tags, hence your reblog directly from me and my original post. i mean, come on, it isn’t even a case of idiocy that hinata fans haven’t figured out simple blacklisting; they purposely choose not to in weak attempts at harassment and a chance at throwing their toys over a two-and-a-half-year-old post.

———

here’s the response from the update you either [ a ] purposely chose not to reblog from so that your argument could actually appear to hold any strength and fit the confirmation bias of the sheep who follow you, or  [ b ] did not necessarily ignore but simply rather missed due to becoming instantly offended and enraged enough to reply (to an appropriately tagged post) when stalking ‘anti’ tags of your own volition:

  • “one is official art and the other is just a sketch!”
it isn’t a comparison of the level of detail in kishimoto’s depictions, obviously they’re different… the chosen images are mere examples showcasing the severe bias that s/p have in arrogantly defying canon, solely because of their partiality. these pictures highlight how they undermine sakura and (/to) emphasise hinata, despite their given source material, which they’re supposed to directlyandaccuratelyreference.
  • the chosen images [of hinata] are actually on consecutive pages of damn official guidebook, directly showing the two designs in relation to one another; highlighting their differences.
  • it isn’t a direct comparison of the girls themselves, fgs. it’s exposing s/p’s favouritism and sexism; knowing that exploiting conventionally attractive traits – such as large breasts and “feminine” qualities – are features more likely desired. as such, an audience – especially a young male demographic (shonen’s target market) – would evidently be much more inclined to like that character.
  • [in relation to your comment reducing this issue merely to chest size:] whilst i do have an issue with her wardrobe [in s/p’s rendition, which particularly accents her chest] essentially acting as exploitation of her character through sexist marketing strategy (particularly due to defying the previous databook entries regarding her style), her clothes [moreover, her accentuated chest size, in this argument particularly since you want to focus on that] aren’t exactly the issue i’m stressing here – rather it’s s/p’s modification of kishi’s design to sexualise her.
↳ see a further explanation here!

———

as stated many times previously, the issue goes deeper than chest size – especially such in shonen – and you know that, so do not patronise the issue.

this isn’t about tit measuring* and you’re much more aware of that than you let on. don’t act oblivious to strengthen an argument based in sexism.
alike to ‘dick measuring’: in which these fictional women are forced to compete over a superficial characteristic that a male-dominated society (and, as such, industry) has deemed important, in order to demonstrate their supposed worthiness, power and overall superiority status.

“funnily enough, sakura looks better in sp versions.”

don’t do that. you don’t care about sakura… a quick look at your blog showcases that. you don’t think she looks conventionally – i.e. genuinely – “better” in s/p’s version because you wouldn’t argue over the comparison in the first place if you did. you think that she looks better because she looks worse; which you personally prefer, as that is your bias since you dislike her and/or like hinata more, therefore – due to patriarchal brainwashing out of your control regarding comparisons deemed preferable by straight men – you want her to appear superior by said superficial means of conventional attractiveness. contrary to that subconscious and man-made belief, that is not a female character’s only worth. and highlighting studio pierrot’s bias in perpetuating that ideology is the exact point of this original post.

———

again from the explanatory addition:

it is only worth bringing up said argument to dismantle the misogynistic discourse and wider social issue attached, not to further it by supporting it (/those responsible by arguing for their end product).

———

i personally don’t know how someone can relate to a male-written, entirely one-dimensional female character who featured in canon less than 1% of the manga (since ‘naruto’ has about 12,500 pages on average and hinata was depicted on something as low as 100 of them). but if you mean fanon hinata – the studio pierrot version you’re so familiar with – wait, no, i still don’t understand relating to a character void of her great potential by blatant misogyny in the form of objectification.

“the bias is there, and s/p’s sexist discourse attached to such is the issue… along with them just, you know, being terrible animators not doing their damn job.”

the naruto promotional team never fail to make my eyes roll and stomach turn at this industry’s inhe

the naruto promotional team never fail to make my eyes roll and stomach turn at this industry’s inherent objectification.

yeah, she looks good… nobody’s mad at or contesting that – the problem is the semiotics that are at play here. (for real, this will probably be my most academic-like analysis yet so please read my information page to understand what i’m doing. ⚠️) but before even getting into that, there are some other significant issues in this:

  • most of us should know (yet the general multitude of male fans struggle to even comprehend) that breasts – particularly larger chests – do not look like that; they are not firmly perked up in a fixed position. gravity, you know, exists. but we’re so accustomed to anatomically incorrect content and the sexualisation of fictitious female bodies (and, of course, real ones) that it’s nothing new, and most people will even find it trivial to be critical of such at this point because of how used to it we’ve become as a patriarchal-hegemonic audience.
↳ it is made worse by their prior post anticipating this image, de-facing her (literally, which is telling in itself), focusing individually on and as such reducing her to some of her most sexualised features (upper breast/cleavage, thigh, etc.).
image
image
  1. “hinata has a bland appearance.”
  2. “[…]frumpy[…]”
↳ meaning: ‘(of a person or their clothes) unfashionable and unstylish in appearance (typically used of a woman).’
  3. “[…]reducing the amount of skin she shows.”
  4. “she’s not too interested in fashion.”

without us knowing that they are of course both hinata, the christmas image in question and the below panel of her introduction in part two barely resemble the same character:

image

moving on, the term ‘male gaze’ is where the semiotics that are present here begin… look at the details, moreover hinata’s passive body language making her the submissive subject in this image; her sheepishly averted gaze, raised shoulders (slightly hunched and coming forward; tense, nervous, hiding), her creased eyebrows showing discomfort and her flushed cheeks, etc. she shares the last feature with hanabi but analyse the vital difference between them: hanabi is looking right at the viewer, upper body covered; hinata is being looked at, she is on display.

this is building off of the work of an extremely noteworthy scholar in this very field, laura mulvey – the woman behind this research of ‘the male gaze’.

hinata is a prime example of mulvey’s work, which is essentially the concept that women are depicted from a masculine and heterosexual point of view; presented as objects of male pleasure. hinata’s visual role, as mulvey would argue, is to cater to that heterosexual male viewer – i.e. shonen’s primary demographic after all. mulvey states that there is an “active male” and “passive female” within media; “women as image, man as bearer of the look”. seem familiar? it is evident from this singular image alone! as a female role, mulvey would find that hinata’s character is “displayed as a sexual object”; her appearance “coded for strong visual and erotic impact”. i mean, like i said, this can all be applied to this one image alone!

honestly, this industry can be disgusting… what they have collectively done to hinata’s character is appalling, and yet her fans (mostly the fans that these producers have created through such work, mind you) defend these practices because of how indoctrinated our society is by this very type of content. this relates to another quote of mulvey’s: “as an advanced representation system, [the media] poses questions about the ways the unconscious (formed by the dominant order) structures ways of seeing and pleasure in looking.” basically, we unconsciously – or so we think, as it is actually the product of the dominant order’s ideologies – make us code “subconscious” meaning in what we see.

i’ll finish this with another quote of hers to consider in relation to hinata’s portrayal, (as stated) mostly outside of kishimoto’s work in imagery like this: “[women in media produced by men/male-dominanted industries] exist in a state of suspended animation, without depth or context, withdrawn from any meaning other than the message imprinted by their clothes, stance and gestures.” with how used to it we are, this may not look like much upon first glance. sure, a sigh of annoyance at their favouritism and sexualisation maybe? but this very type of imagery is indicative of much more; it implicitly acts as one of the very tools for endorsing the imposed patriarchal, misogynistic ideology.

Hinata stans, either stop trying to interact on this blog or get much smarter.

One of these two things needs to happen, something’s gotta give.

HiNáTĀ iS tHë sPïrItuAl HêRœ oF tHîs ÃRc.

Kishimoto never meant for Hinata to be seen as Naruto’s savior in Pein arc. However, he was also smart enough to be creative about it. By this time, he knew Hinata would be paired off with Naruto, he could have written Hinata with a bit of grace. But Kishi doesn’t work like that. To choose to write her confession this way, he showed her to be a silly girl infatuated with the hero, not as a shinobi or someone who cares or thinks of her family or village or anything else. She has been almost invisible prior to this in Shippuden, hardly having any contribution to the narrative or a battle. So this chapter could have served to portray a more well rounded Hinata, but Kishimoto had different plans. Safe plans though. On a surface level, it seems Hinata is doing it out of the force of her love for Naruto, but we get to see how things unravel and it does not show Hinata in a good light.

So while Naruto is battling Pein, it is made clear that Naruto’s message has reached the Konohabitants (people of Konoha), and they know what to do, not interfere.

This message has reached Hinata as well.

She is clearly worried, she is sitting there, under the protection of her branch family bodyguard.

We can see that Katsuyu is there with her and her injured slave.

So while Hinata is on this side, on the other side, Inoichi and team have located Pein and need to send teams with chakra sensing type shinobis to look for the exact location.

Well, Hinata is a chakra sensing type.

Right then, to stress on this, Kishi makes Gai’s team enter Konoha, and Neji is shown to use Byakugan to recognise Jiraiya’s frog, Gamabunta. So we get the impression that a chakra sensing shinobi would have been really able to help.

But then, before anything could happen, we see her doing this.

And then immediately, we see this happening to her.

Hehehe, idc what anyone says, Kishi did it this way for the chuckles, I just know it. You must have seen this happening in cartoons, some foolhardy loser who highly overestimates their abilities would unthinkingly rush in to fight the villian with all the swagger they could muster and get yeeted out in the atmosphere Right Away and then you hear - AAAaaahhhhh… which then slowly fades off into the distance. Always draws chuckles and sniggers, great comic timing. Heh.

Now, just the way Kishi wrote this chapter called ‘Hinata’s confession’, is quite informative of Hinata’s feelings for Naruto and Naruto’s complete obliviousness of Hinata’s existence. We understand that Inoichi has found Pein’s location and needs 'chakra sensing type’ shinobis in as many teams as possible and they are relaying that message through Katsuyu.

So if Hinata had waited two more seconds, she would have probably been able to contribute to the battle rather than falling on her face with strike one.

Hahaha. Kishi, you genius, you.

He established the whole scene where Shikamaru, Ino, Inoichi, Katsuyu, Shiho etc are planning a smart scheme and following up diligently, actually contributing to the battle. We have already seen Sakura doing her job, helping villagers and the injured (one of her good moments, there are so few and so far apart sigh..), we have seen Konohamaru blast one of the paths of Pein, we have seen Tsunade doing her best saving people, we have already seen Kakashi and team fight Pein intelligently and creatively, and then we see Hinata who is literally just sitting there. How exactly do we see her contribute to anything?

So as we see Kishi developing this battle arc, we have seen how various Konohabitants have contributed to the battle, and we have gotten a strong sense of how absolutely devastatingly strong Pein is, and then we see Hinata charging in like a lunatic, while the others are hatching plans and schemes and actually using their training to somehow defeat Pein.

Yes, Hinata is emotionally driven to protect Naruto and can’t think logically but her short sightedness almost got Naruto killed. Some confession. Heh.

If only she had shown some patience and mental acuity, something shinobis are actually trained in. She would have been able to help Naruto and somehow contribute to the battle. But well, that has never been Hinata’s strong suit.

Thing is, she admits she is being selfish. She Knows whatever she is doing won’t help anyone. She knows she can’t hope to defeat or even delay Pein. And she obviously isn’t able to help Naruto. She went there to die, she knew she probably would die, so might as well confess to Naruto before either he died at the hands of Pein or her. If she really wanted to help Naruto, she would have used her abilities to hatch a plan of action. Or devised some creative trick. Or something that she knew would have at least a miniscule chance at succeeding. Not what she did.

But well, that’s not how Kishi wrote her. Never intended to. He always meant to portray her as a wallflower, someone whose everything revolves around Naruto, who stalks him from a distance, who only shows courage and motivation to fight when Naruto is looking, who does nothing to make her presence felt.

What’s even funnier is Kishi establishes this right away. How? With the panel cover of this chapter.

This is Hinata. In a chapter called her Confession.

Sitting there, nervously balled up while not even looking directly at Naruto. Naruto turned away from her, going about his business without even being aware of her existence. How the touch of his distinctly drawn mere passing shadow makes her curl her toes and blush uncontrollably. Like a shy little girl in throes of a high school crush. When Kishimoto said in one of his interviews that Hinata is someone who watches from the shadows, he didn’t mean it only figuratively lol. 'Hinata - the shadow girl’. That man cracks me up, the joker.

The visual language says everything you need to know.

He couldn’t even be bothered noticing her on his own, is it any wonder that Naruto doesn’t respond to her confession?

Naruto is so bored with Hinata. Like this boy who traveled all over, met the most complex and interesting, most influential, magnanimous, top of their game - type people, got inspired by them, overcame obstacles in the quest of gaining better understanding so that he could understand Sasuke’s heart, managed to do it and reconciled with one of the most well developed and truly complex character such as Sasuke, Naruto who now is the leader of a reformed world, who learnt so much about people in his life journey, who literally invented empathy in the lawless system he lives in, who understood what made people tick at the end of the day and used it to forge his dream, this boy who became the person he is by overcoming his disadvantages by playing on their strength…..this boy, This Boy got stuck with the most boring, sidey, bland, colourless, arcless, mentally and skillwise weak, one dimensional, certainly very privileged and painfully simple minded, at times clearly illogical and poorly disciplined, insensitive, spoilt and ‘largely absent from the picture and pretty much inconsequential except in couple of bad ways’ character.

If anyone ever did, Naruto understood a complex character and learnt to appreciate them, and is it any wonder we see him napping next to her watching some soap (and crying) in canon? Tired or Bored? Both probably. Like Kishi had to make sure to portray her as the painfully stereotypical wife.

Like honestly, what common interests do they have? I am sure Hinata knows next to nothing about Sasuke. Or battle strategy, or politics, or administration, or empathy (last time I checked, Neji was still dead as her slave) or high grade jutsus or being able to comfort her son when he needs it most or being able to stay by her daughter’s side during an alien attack or whatever. Honestly, what do they really talk about?

Ah, Naruto’s laundry, of course.

What a cruel joke Kishi. Well, at least you deride NH as well, but I would have preferred to see Naruto happy. Yeah yeah, it wouldn’t have happened, whatever. But Boruto is still cursed.

its-naruto-universe:And of course the boobs will have their own panel? And can we please talk about

its-naruto-universe:

And of course the boobs will have their own panel? And can we please talk about the fact that you can see the form of her nipples? Can they even do that in a shonen aimed at Naruto’s audience

The “Last” trash filler changed it to this

Yes sure It’s not like his first love was always in love his best friend. It’s not like  his best friend went away from the village abandoning everyone, after failing to kill him and basically giving up on his life and body to achieve his revenge

Yeah damn the stalker  has more impact on him

And then after a reanimated canon chapter, with all those fillerish inserted moments, we go to fucking this

image

This isn’t even Naruto anymore. Gosh they are ruining this so baddly

And why the fuck does hinata even talk, does she even know about his dream or anything

lazymilkshakecolor:

Remember who didn’t become important ( as important as she can be) until a filler movie came, coincidentally by the same time Naruto stopped being the Naruto we loved?

Wait she was actually having a nosebleed over Naruto? WHUTT

And karin is supposed to be the thirsty one Lmao

ah by the way in anime you get a nosebleed everytime you are  sexually aroused basically

its-naruto-universe:

You do realise The Last exists because kishimoto couldn’t care less about making naruto fall in love with Hinata. There’s where sp comes in making an whole film to make this shit canon Lmao.
Same with the boruto anime shit. Enjoy your nonsense and ooc fillers since that’s all Kishimoto blessed you with

its-naruto-universe:

I honestly can’t help to think that hinata’s “affection”, was self-pity at the fact that she fund someone who was more miserable than her.

That’s not love. Love is  trying to be there for him and not being a fucking stalker, who stays behind a tree and whatch the kid you like suffer alone

That’s why they had to add the pathethic omake where she actually aknoweldges she did absolutely nothing for him.

its-naruto-universe:

- Yes well i could apply this logic to a lot of other characters

- Naruto’s always loved Sakura. Does he also deserve her, or does it not work for him… even though he is the main character?

Beacuse it was created just for hinata’s wanker ego. I’m sorry but this is shit since I don’t see people calling mito and kushina a first lady. An you know what?? Hinata absolutely archievied nothing! The hokage in naruto meanwhile she literally does nothing all day, so stop trashing the manga for a fucking background character.

That’s just lame

Friendly reminder that marrying someone important doesn’t make you as important. Get that in your heads.

WE ALL SAW HER STRNGTH IN BORUTO THE MOVIE. THAT IS ACTUALLY CANON INSTEAD OF THE HORROR MOVIE THE LAST IS

She can’t even protect her fucking daughter. Hime my ass, and yet ino is the one that gets a lot of hate for being useless  and weak. Bruh
