Omega/omega A/B/O, because I CAN. There is literally no reason for Azula and Yue to ever form a romantic attraction to each other so of course Azula gets the first crush of her entire life when she gets sent to prime the Northern Water Tribe for conquering with “polite” manipulations and meets Princess Yue. She is in genuine shock and may need to go have a lie-down. Ty Lee thinks it’s adorable. Mai is concerned she might have a fever or something.
“She smells like fresh fire flakes,” Azula says in appalled disbelief, hugging her pillow. “Not to us,” Mai informs her. Azula DESPAIRS. What does that mean?! What does that EVEN MEAN?!?! That they’re compatible mates, probably, which is the LAST thing that will EVER occur to her. Compatible mates are not a concern that Azula has ever so much as considered in her life, ever.
“A pleasure to meet you,” Yue says the next day, all polite and super-repressed and fake chill like she is. It takes all of Azula’s considerable self-control not to either a) blush or b) catch on literal fire. Ty Lee thinks it’s even MORE adorable. Mai is considering getting a healer or something.
Everyone in the NWT is stupid and has no idea, no matter how awkward Azula gets. Why would an omega be crushing on another omega, after all? That’s ridiculous. Also Yue is obviously going to marry handsome and accomplished alpha Hahn one day and so why would she even notice anyone else ever, right? Never going to occur to them as a possibility, ever. Why would it? A pair of omegas would never be COMPATIBLE, after all, much less even interested in each other!
Meanwhile, Azula is writing Yue’s name in fancy High Fire script in the corners of all her treaty drafts and plotting a romantic kidnapping.

Azula gives not a crap about the NWT and its gender standards, and Yue has no idea how to process an Azula. They meet at some AU political thing, because I need a thin excuse to put them in the same room together and I will take the first one that comes to mind. Yue is not actually AT this AU political thing, of course, because why would anyone let the princess near the politics? Azula is so baffled by this concept that she barely remembers to be offended by it.
Actually, the NWT just has Yue greeting Azula at the door, because obviously the Fire Nation did not send their LITERAL PRINCESS to the politics and presumably someone else is coming, so the princesses can just have tea and exchange pleasantries, as princesses presumably do. It takes Azula FAR too long to realize what is going on because she has literally zero (0) frame of reference for it. Everyone with any scrap of authority in the NWT is going to regret this, though. They are going to regret this so, so much. They are especially going to regret leaving Azula alone with Yue.
So yeah Azula gets left alone with Yue and starts TALKING to her, because she naturally assumes that Yue has some scrap of political importance and should therefore be being manipulated right now. Yue of course has literally nothing to be manipulated into/about/over, and is just politely sitting there like “… what are we talking about?” and occasionally maybe pouring some tea or something while she tries to figure out if she’s allowed to tell another girl that they’re pretty. Probably not, she thinks, but it is SO tempting. In her defense, Azula is EXTREMELY pretty.
Azula says something that makes Yue realize she thinks they’re actually making decisions about literally anything important here and Yue almost laughs at her but is mostly just very puzzled. She has no idea why Azula thinks they’re making DECISIONS but is also low-key fascinated by the implications and just kinda … pours her some more tea and keeps listening. Azula is very pleased; this is going SO well.
Azula says … so many things. Yue’s mind is low-key blown, and she is increasingly aware of just how pretty Azula is. Like … that is definitely a thing, she is definitely increasingly aware of this thing. Would Azula like more tea, actually, and maybe to expand on what she’s talking about with trade routes??
Yue/Azula for @twird96. This was supposed to be A/B/O but uh, the burgeoning hints of plot happened instead, lol. I … actually kind of want to write this long-form now, but I REALLY don’t have the time.
Yeah they don’t meet in canon but WHO CARES, canon is for nerds! Actually okay they don’t meet in canon, so let’s do POST canon. Azula is locked up in a hospital somewhere in the Fire Nation seething and refusing to engage with any form of recovery, and Yue is the moon. Someone has the bright idea to cart Azula off to the healing hut up north and maybe try spirit oasis water on her, and Azula is spitting rage and loathing and very, VERY non-cooperative about the whole thing. But, like … Zuko is very low on family members right now and also Azula is fourteen and that’s kind of young for literally everyone to give up on her ever being a redeemable human being, so she ends up at the healing hut anyway. Yugoda does not have a fun time, and the fancy spirit oasis water doesn’t do jack shit. At least, not as far as anyone can tell.
Azula spits fire and hates Zuko and dreams about the moon, and Yue visits this strange, raging girl she doesn’t know from Koh in her sleep, because spirit oasis water. “What the hell are YOU supposed to be?” Azula says, expecting a trick or a trap, and Yue has never actually A) met another princess or B) been talked to like that by, like, anyone. “My name is Yue,” she says anyway, polite as she’s always been, and Azula bares her teeth and breathes FIRE. Which would be a problem for someone else, probably, but really does not affect a moon goddess. It is a LITTLE concerning, though, and Yue instinctively tries to stop it. Unfortunately, Yue does not really understand all her goddess powers just yet.
Azula wakes up with moonlight coming in her window and wet hair, and tries to breathe fire again. It comes out ice and fog. Azula does NOT take this well. Somewhere, Yue is like “… didn’t know I could do that! Welp!” Somewhere else, Agni is very annoyed. Zuko goes to visit Azula in the morning and she’s torn her room apart and frozen half the place solid. He is understandably confused and alarmed by this, and Azula is too damn furious to do anything but try and scratch his eyes out, which understandably interferes with him figuring out what the fuck is going on here.
Azula sleeps again, eventually, and Yue figures she’d better check on her. “I’ll kill you for this, spirit,” Azula says, baring frosted-over teeth at her, and Yue falls just a little bit in love. Or, uh. Maybe a little bit more than a little. She tries to fix the firebending. It does not work, because again, she really does not understand all her goddess powers just yet. Azula doesn’t believe she’s actually trying, and tries to scratch HER eyes out. Yue is flustered and awkward and has no idea how to deal with a person like Azula at all. “I’m sorry,” she says, and Azula doesn’t believe a word of it.
Thus begins the misadventures of Yue trying to figure out how to take back the waterbending thing without taking away Azula’s bending altogether, wherein La is no help at all and Aang and Zuko are VERY confused about literally All The Things, and Yue really, really cannot figure out how to handle all the weird feelings she is having right now. It’s probably a moon thing, she tells herself. It is definitely not a moon thing.
