#image description
if you are posting a screenshot or picture, especially one that has to do with disability, please, please, please provide a description for disabled folks who might not be able to see or read those images without that description.
it’s a real disconnect to post something about disability and then make it so that part of the disabled community cannot read or access what you just posted.
This week, from 23 January 2022 to 28 January 2022, I want to draw cats in wizard hats.
Reblog this post with a photo of your cat. In the body of the post, include the cat’s name, and what kind of wizard they would be; and I’ll draw your cat from that photo, adding in an appropriate wizard hat.
The normal rules for my art events apply here. If you’re not familiar with them:
- only one request at a time, and only one photo per request
- once your request has been drawn and posted, you can then make another request (such as for another cat you have)
- “just draw whatever you want” is NOT helpful; if I didn’t want suggestions, I wouldn’t be asking for suggestions
- as long as I’m able to both draw, and post stuff here, I will be drawing all valid requests I receive, in the order they come in
- if it feels like I haven’t gotten your request, feel free to ask me about it; either it’s on my list, or I didn’t see it because of hellsite issues and I’ll put it on my list, or there was a problem with the request and I can tell you how to fix it
This is so great, I hope you haven’t gotten swamped yet and find some time for my cat!
This is my cat Jane! She’s very cuddly and spends a lot of time sleeping. I like to think that she has a healing purr, so she would be a healing mage, if that makes sense / exists in your imagination. (If not, maybe an earth mage instead?)
[ID: a dark tortie cat with yellow eyes laying on a cushion and blanket. Her face is in front and her body is vaguely visible in the back.]
Adding a second pic just in case you need it:
[ID: a dark tortie with a light chest sitting and bending her head to the side to sniff a hand. Her head is blurred because she moved it too quickly for the camera.]
[Image description: drawing of the above cat, but now she is wearing a green floppy wizard hat with vine-like decoration on it. End description.]
Tired cat is a mood.
Thank you that is such a cute drawing of her! And seeing this I reread the post and saw the “only one photo per request” and felt like an idiot, sorry about that.

while i highly appreciate the new trend of people adding image descriptions to as many posts as they can, i think if youre going to write an image description for a well known meme you should make sure you’re familiar with the context of the original meme or else maybe you’re not the most qualified to be writing the description for that particular image. this post inspired by me seeing an ID of a version of the “ariana grande we’re really in it now” meme that described Manny Jacinto as “a white man”
also on a much more sinister note, intentionally misrepresenting what an image depicts when writing an image description for the sake of being funny, which is an (albeit rare) thing that i have actually been seeing people do, is literally disgusting and the fact that people could think thats acceptable is mind boggling to me. like obviously describing an image in a funny way that adds to the experience of the image is fine but ultimately image descriptions are a utility and accessibility measure that is meant to at least approximate the actual image and obscuring that for the sake of jokes is ableist xoxoxo
Here’s a Google doc with template descriptions for many different memes (created by @orange-airplanes and @pathos-logical) which I got from @a-captions-blog in case you don’t know where to start!

The first, themed around the lesbian flag, has stickers of hearts on the right. The second, themed around the rainbow flag, has many rainbow stickers on the right. The third, themed around the bisexual flag, has two stickers of guns on the right, one blue and one pink. The fourth, themed around the transgender flag, has a sticker of two Care Bears hugging each other, one pink and one blue. The fifth, themed around the asexual flag, has stickers of a purple cake and ace playing cards. The sixth, themed around the nonbinary flag, has a sticker of Winnie the Pooh eating some honey, shirt purple.
In the reblog, there’s a screenshot of the tumblr inbox of @JoshPeck. Anonymous asks, “my phone autocorrected LGBT to HGTV please ignore my last ask”. The ask below it says, “are you a part of the HGTV+ community?” / end ID]
