In 1971, prisoners at the Attica Correctional Facility in Attica, New York, rebel against the institution and demand higher living standards by taking guards hostage with crude handmade weapons. Based on the reporting of New York Times journalist Tom Wicker (George Grizzard), this recreation of the historic four-day event follows the struggle between enraged inmates and uncooperative negotiators, resulting in a massacre that leaves many guards and prisoners dead.
