These are some characters for a murder mystery concept I’ve been working on (top row- from left to right: Julia Catterpoole, “Rodger The Old Codger”, Wren LaNorsche, Stan Baily, his wife, Nan Baily, and Beatrix Burke) (bottom row- from left to right: Madame Moyra, her brother, Lionel Furguson, Tilly MacDonald, Stuart Gleeson, and then “Mean Jim”)
…and then of course the inspector, Inspector Hector Cabbott III. I can’t wait to work more on the story, this is fun!
Long time no post :P With graduating, moving, work, and Spectrum Fantastic Art Live, I’ve been forgetting to share things on ye olde Tumblr.
Here’s a little bat for a Friday night!
I also just watched a terrific artist documentary on Drew Struzan, very inspirational. I highly recommend it to any artist looking for that motivational boost, or any non artist looking for some insight into a creative professional’s lifestyle.
I’m happy to share this recently commissioned portrait of Miss. Esther Earl!
It was a pleasure working with her parents on this special gift for John Green, and I’m honored to help keep her star burning! :)
For those of you who are unfamiliar with Esther’s story, as well as being an exceptional young lady in her own right, she was also a huge inspiration for John Green’sThe Fault in out Stars.
If you are interested, please check out the “This Star Wont Go Out Foundation”, a non-profit foundation headed my Esther’s parents, Lori and Wayne. They continue to serve families with children diagnosed with life-threatening cancer in Esther’s honor. There you can read more about her life and legacy!
I was recently commissioned to paint a portrait of Dr. Charles Krauthammer for the Ringling College Library Association. I love a good portrait challenge, and I learned a lot about building color on this one!
Sketched some Skeksis a little while back. It’s 2015, and I just recently discovered the Dark Crystal, haha. Better late than never! :)
It’s been a good holiday. I’m a bit anxious about entering my last semester of school. I’m sure it will be fine though. It’s a new year, and I’m remaining optimistic, levelheaded, and kind to myself as much as possible! :) Hopefully this year will be better for being creative, active, and efficient in my work, as well as in other areas of life. Wishing you all the best as always!
Honored to have placed third at the fifth annual Judeica Show this year! Many thanks to the Hillells of the Florida Suncoast for hosting the event.
This year the theme was, The Book of Numbers. It felt nice to take some time and do some reading and research for this piece.
It is said that Aaron’s rod, was made of an almond branch, and upon his appointment as resurrected High Priest, his rod budded and flowered, as a sign that he was chosen to lead the generations forward.
The almond tree is a progressive symbol in the Jewish faith of new life and new beginnings. As it’s amongst the first to bloom and awaken from winter’s sleep, I noted strong parallels with the new generation of Israelites who awaken in faith and new leadership to move their people forward to a better life.
Hello! Just a heads up that I’ll be at New York ComicCon this weekend! Come say hello if you are around. You can find me at the Ringling College Booth #437. Getting excited…See you there! Looking forward to meeting new faces <3
I read Neil Gaiman’s “Ocean at the End of the Lane” this summer, and It completely got me back into reading.
This is my interpretation of one of the “Hunger Birds,” the willfully aggressive, world devouring varmints. When something is out of hand, or out of place, they devour.
They are the Cleaners.
The image of them was so clear to me, that I couldn’t help but try to put it on paper.
I also read that Focus Features will be adapting this story into a film that will be produced by Tom hanks and directed by Joe Wright. I would very much love to be a part of that.
Here is a fancy witch to celebrate having a new tablet ( and Harry Potter/ Jo Rowling’s birthday too ) Who could go wrong with that bird hat, right? I’m forever on a quest to push my paint application to a stronger place … One step forward
Thank you to those of you who came out to the Miami SuperCon last weekend and visited with me and Danielle! It was a crazy four days, but worth it. Forever grateful for your support :)
“The fairy is a small and decorative beast of little intelligence. Often used or conjured by wizards for decoration, the fairy generally inhabits woodlands or glades. Ranging in height from one to five inches, the fairy has a minute humanoid body, head, and limbs but sports large insect like wings, which may be transparent or multi-colored, according to type.”
“The fairy possesses a weak brand of magic that it may use to deter predators, such as an Augurey. it has a quarrelsome nature but, being excessively vain, it will become docile in any occasion when called to act as an ornament. Despite it’s humanlike appearance, the fairy cannot speak. it makes a high pitched buzzing noise to communicate with its fellows.”
“The fairy lays up to fifty eggs at a time on the underside of leaves. The eggs hatch into brightly colored larvae. At the age of six to ten days these spin themselves a cocoon, from which they emerge one month later as fully formed winged adults.”
-Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
It’s a huge dream of mine to work on the “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” movie trilogy. I’ve been trying to draw some beasts from the book lately in hopes that sharing them may lead me to doing some design work on the films. This prospect is really exciting to me, so expect more creature drawings from me. I hope you enjoy. :)
