First post in forever. For the past few years, I’ve been sharing my art books collection on instagram. I collect everything from photobooks to monographs, artists’ books to zines, catalogues to big fashion books and every little weird thing in between.

I’ll probably share some more on here as well, but if that sounds like something you’d like, here is my IG page

fek:

Barbara Kruger’s never really talked about Supremethe skate company who’s been ripping off her ideas and prints letter for letter, color for color, for their red-and-white logo, which you have seen, because it is everywhere.

I emailed her casually to ask her about this. And today, she got back to me, and gave a candid statement on the matter of Supreme for the first time, ever, really. By emailing me a blank email, with an attachment. Which you can see above.

Barbara Kruger,We Won’t Play Nature to your Culture, 1983

  • third wave feminist art
  • kruger worked in the publishing industry and started to take commercial images and undermines them with text
  • leaves it open ended by using pronouns – ‘we’ and ‘your’
  • challenges expected gender norms

I Had a project where I needed to research a famous graphic designer and the create a poster in the same style as them. I chose Barbara Kruger because of the way she makes bold commentary with almost cut out like text and an image. She calls attention to issues of race, gender, sexism, religion, and consumerism.
