Sermons of the Winter

In honor of the big snowstorm headed our way, we thought this collection of sermons by Edward Everett Hale in a lovely publisher’s binding was especially appropriate.

It doesn’t matter what I tie you in, if you think about it for just a second. Just so you know

It doesn’t matter what I tie you in, if you think about it for just a second. Just so you know that there’s the bite of something around your wrists, ankles, keeping you in place. You’re never going to really test the restraints, because you don’t want to be free. You’ll give them the slightest of flexes, and then be satisfied that the illusion will hold if you push and prod it. Elastic like a membrane, the whole thing expanding to accommodate your suspicion.

Because while it might be an illusion, the physicality of it, the binds are very real. They settle around your mind like a perimeter, and if you were to push and pull at those, you might find something that pushes back.

I’ve put my hooks into you, wrapped myself around your head, and when I tie you up it’s an extension of that power that I’m manifesting. It’s not about whether those will hold you, because my will is holding you fast already. You can push and struggle against that all you like, but I tied you up long ago and you’re not going anywhere until I decide you will.
