It’s My Little Monday!
With…G3 Pony Moondancer!
Yes, this one does share the same name with the G1 pony, however they look nothing alike. Moondancer was a play pack pony, where she came with lots of items for a slumber party. This made her more costly than regular ponies, and she was only released (probably) twice. The accessories included things like bunny slippers, radio that played music, blanket, nokia-looking cellphone, and food/drink among others.
She’s a frosty-cool color of blue (which G3 quite enjoyed, a few have a similar color) with mild yellow hair and a simple smiling moon/’1950s style’ stars & blue ‘sky’ shape. The stylization of the moon and the blob shape for the sky/stars gives the symbol quite a retro feel. (Oddly several G3s crib at retro ‘space age’ design points–it’s not understood how or why they’d choose the era to design from)
The frosty blue plastic is especially lovely because of that signature G3 shimmer dust that many of them have. It lends an icy, fantasy tone and helps her match with her hair color. The eye color is an interesting choice: pink and aqua, which are nowhere else in her design. She’s in ‘the diva pose’, making her seem like an elegant character. Notice the hoof heart is a middling yellow: they were not afraid to spend on multiple inks that don’t appear more than once.
She was an early favorite on the line!
Fans were stirred up over her name (wishing for the original G1 to return), but she won people over with her fun accessories and lovely color scheme. She also appeared in the G3 cartoons at least twice. I love blue ponies, and this one is no exception: she’s great! A dreamy character with a peaceful look. Pick her up if you can! (You don’t want her to end up expensive later–which she likely will because not everyone wanted to splurge on the accessory-pack pony)

With…G3 The Pony Project 2012 Rocking Horse Blue Pony
Another photo from the Pony Project appears…and this is all the resolution that it has. So, you can’t read the symbol nor the words on the pyramid. The name of the artist or the work is also not known.
This is the usual giant size G3 pony, but whoever did it has customized it to blue with 2 white bands on each leg. The hair was left white and has been braided and tied with black ribbons. The pony has been glued to a wooden rocker base, turning her into a ‘rocking horse’ toy for the plush pyramid happy character to ride on and hug. They changed the eye to solid black and white, and added a bright pink solid blush mark for each cheek.
It’s an ok design: clearly they had the character set up/in mind and then added a fun toy to enjoy the character’s rocking ability. It would be interesting to know what is written on the pyramid.
The charity this benefited was Give Kids the World Villiage in 2012. There were supposed to be something like 25 of these done, but it seems like there were more than just what appeared in the Toy Gallery 1 Night Event Art Show (and were then sold to raise money). Characters keep popping up that were never in the original photos from the gallery. Sometimes someone can chip in with info once it’s posted here though…in which case she’d re-appear with more info and more photos.
*There are so many of these that they’re taking over MLM, so considering having a day of the week for them that is separate. Also they’re about to get super weird and somewhat inappropriate.
