A breed often mistaken for a Cane Corso is this dog, the Presa Canario. It’s likely cause they have similar builds, color and size. Not to mention I can see how the name Cane can be mistook for Canario.

The dog pictured is Tono Del Hardin Canario (DOB 5/27/89) he was owned by a fellow (Bill Jarvis) in Utah who if my memory serves me right, was at the time a young Mormon doing missionary work in Spain where he acquired Tono before setting back to the states.

I was 15/16 in 1990/91, Al Banuelos, Daryl Young and I drove out to Utah to purchase a pair of pups. We believe that we were the first to bring Presa’s into the state of California at that time, or least one of the first. I kept the female and Al Banuelos kept the Male.

Just another bit of history on some great dogs, great memories and about myself doing what I love.

This post is for those who’ve asked if I know about Cane Corso, their history or how to train them. I’ve even been told that I mispronounce the name. This is for you….

.

.

Yes in fact I do, I trained my first Corso in 1991 before the ICCF (International Cane Corso Federation 1992) began registering them. The dog was from one of the original breeder/importer of the Corso dogs to America, Micheal Sottile. Since 1991 I’ve trained and owned over 50 plus Corso.

.

.

I’ve trained Corso’s to be functional family pets, protection dogs, even a dog that was used as a service dog but never accredited. I’ve also been a part of several breeders in helping them create their lines as well as choosing dogs that would eventually become the foundation dogs for registration through AKC

.

.

My question to you is do you know Cane Corso?

Everyone has their favorite breeds and mine, cause of my vast experiences with dogs is for sure the “rare breeds” or as they are classified today “miscellaneous”

.

Now you could bring me a Poodle or a Dalmatian and of course I can train it but it’s the working dogs, utilitarian breeds or as I call them “breeds of purpose” that excite me the most to work and get the best out of them.

.

But let’s go back for a second and touch on the rare breeds. Back when I began, (very few!) trainers knew or had the experience to work with Presa’s, Corso’s, American Bulldogs, Boerboel’s, Tosa’s to name some of many rare dogs. Today these breeds have become popular and even mainstream but I still feel that trainers don’t know enough about them.

.

With all of this being said, I enjoy training all breeds but will always be partial to the working breeds and rare dogs.
