Maxwell Lord sat in a darkened booth, a stack of videotapes on a table next to him. He rubbed his palm in nervous circles over the threadbare armrest of the chair before lifting his hand and squeezing a fist to regain his composure.
He hadn’t thought about doing something like this before; after all, there was no shortage of women eager to use him for social climbing or as a piggy bank. But he never felt safe with them. He never felt as though he could shed his larger-than-life persona, and he grew tired of lovers after a few months at most.

Mid-July, 1988
—It’s a quiet evening in your apartment in Paris, in the 6ème Arrondissement.
—It’s much nicer than your cramped apartment in Washington D.C. that you were in for a year and a half, up until you moved to Paris 8 months ago, to be a secretary at the Embassy there.
—And before Washington, you had been a secretary for the DEA office in the US Embassy in Bogotá for 3 years.
—Which was your favorite assignment, hands down, despite the cartel violence occurring there.
—You missed your two coworkers the most: Agents Peña and Murphy, with all of their shenanigans around the office.
—“I should really call them sometime,” you think aloud in your apartment, looking out the window onto the street below
—As if the universe heard you, your phone rings
—And when you pick up, it’s one Javier Peña on the other end:
—“Hey, Y/N, how’s it going over in Paris? I’m not interrupting anything, am I?” Javi greets you

you’ve done it again!! learning and seeing so much of evie’s background was amazing and how sidney just fits into her life so perfectly couldn’t be anymore perfect. this had the perfect balance of fluff, smut and angst which is hard to do! i can’t wait to see what happens next in this series as always
ohhh there’s so much to unpack here. sidney’s blowing it for the first time and honestly evie has every right to be upset or mad at him. like i want to scream at him for her lol so it’ll be interesting to see what happens for them going forward but hopefully they work it out and all is okay again!
