Maria Bonita & Lampião, bandits or cangaçeiros, important figures of Brazil’s north-eastern folclore, for the #capoeiraangolasongbook I am working on. Maria Bonita was the first woman to join a Cangaçeiro group and was killed together with her companion, the famous Lampião, in 1938 by police forces.

Hey everyone! As some of you already know I am working on an illustrated Capoeira Angola songbook as my master project at @illustration_udk ,this is basically the reason I never post anything these days as I am busy as hell day and night, but I’ll try to share small pieces of it during the next weeks. There is also going to be the possibility to pre-order the complete risograph printed book and get it in april! Stay tuned for the launch of the pre-order and let me know what you think of all this!
Btw these are small illustrations from the Ladainhas-part of the songbook. Ladainha literally means ‘litany’ and is a solo sung mostly in the beginning of a capoeira 'roda’. These are about a man playing with the devil, a thunderstorm at sea, Mestre Traíra & a mangrove crab.
