Iemanjá
from my master project Cancioneiro Ilustrado at @illustration_udk @udkberlin
The name Iemanjá comes from the iorubá expression “Yèyé omo ejá” which means “mother whose children are fish”. Also called Queen of the Sea, she’s the orixá of fertility and the ocean, honoured not only in Nigeria, but in Brazil and many other countries of the afro-diaspora. In Salvador da Bahia she is celebrated traditionally on the 2nd of february in Rio Vermelho neighbourhood.

Very happy to finally present the Cancioneiro Ilustrado de Capoeira Angola, an illustrated songbook of Capoeira Angola music I have been working on for the last year and which will be released today in a limited edition printed by @drucken3000 in Berlin!
