Leaning the broom you held on the wall beside you, you surveyed the work you’d done on the kitchen floor below you. Despite sweeping for nearly half an hour, you still had a lot more area to clean. You sighed.
Reaching into the back pocket of the loose shorts you wore, you pulled out your phone as you loaded up your music app, reaching over to turn on the small bluetooth speaker that sat on the countertop next to you.

It has been almost two months since the last time you saw him. He’s been sent away on another mission that took a little longer than expected and he hasn’t been able to contact you due to confidentiality. Even though you know he is due back any day, the anticipation to see him is damn near killing you. You sit by the window each night eagerly awaiting the sight of him walking up the path to your front door but he never comes.
You’re picking at your dinner plate at the table one night alone, head hanging down, and tears welling in your eyes. You check the time and it’s already close to nine in the evening. Sighing, you get up and place the dishes in the sink and head for the shower.
Just after you step into the steaming hot water, the key turns in the door and he walks in silently, not wanting to make a sound in case you may have gone to sleep early. He’s so exhausted to the point where he feels like he may collapse at any minute. It’s not until he takes notice that the shower is running that he quickly forces himself to wake up with a renewed energy to see you.
