New but slightly older piece that I never got around to scanning until I got a new scanner… Cherry Blossoms (actually made when cherry blossoms were still relevant, annually speaking)! This took quite a while but I like how it turned out! Watercolor 3.5 x 5 in.
Okay uhhh it’s Cherry’s birthday today and my dumb ass decided to do 3 drawings instead of 1 . And to do it in 2 days . I mean they were supposed to be just sketches or some messy lineart, but here we are. Do anyways I was drawing literally all day today, just breaks for meals, I DIDN’T EVEN WATCH NEW EPISODE YET. But I had finish it today. And I did it
It’s also first day of Matchablossom week! Today’s topic is “birthday” and tomorrow’s “childhood friends” so it also kinda fits :p
And btw now it’s 23:52 in my country so I’m really on time
Handy reference chart showing the difference between blossoms (ume/plum, momo/peach, sakura/cherry, anzu/apricot, ringo/apple). Note the colors, how the buds sit on branches, and of course petals shapes.
Apricot and apple are veeeery rare as kimono/obi patterns. Morover, what I usually simply call “plum” (ume) is in exactly the Prunus mume (or Japanese apricot/plum) and come with red/white/pinkish flowers.
Apricot and Plum seems very hard to differentiate…
Since I’m going back to Japan this month and the cherry blossom season is about to start, I felt like building a shinto shrine and a food festival around it cause I can’t wait to eat real Japanese food again!
