We all have seen the ads where the brands are trying to be size inclusive…
But just don’t get it right! They literally use “the most acceptable” plus size model but as a consumer are you really drawn to a plus size model that has “curves in all the right places, hourglass figures, small bellies, thick thighs and bottoms”
Most plus size brides say no because that isn’t a true representation of them.
As a size 18/20, I have a stomach, I love my stomach but yes I do have one so I like to see how a wedding dress will look with a stomach.

“The fashion industry seems to believe that plus-size means curves in all the right places, hourglass figures, small bellies, thick thighs and bottoms — there is not much more diversity than that,” says fashion and lifestyle writer Sarah Alexander-Georgeson, age 34. “These types of bodies are beautiful, as are all bodies, but they’re not solely representative of what plus size is.”
And @themarcyminute who has been a PPB bridal blogger and graced the cover of our issue 18 print magazine says it best.
“People have been forced to believe one body type is ideal, causing body dysmorphia, self-loathing, yo-yo dieting and beyond,” says Marcy Guevara-Prete, age 36, co-owner of The Plus Bus. “Consuming mainstream media has caused irrevocable damage to people’s self image and it takes years of reprogramming to embrace the jiggle and truly be body neutral, let alone body positive.”
So true!! And honestly exactly what we are experiencing in the wedding industry as well.

Just a reminder from someone who has had body image issues since elementary school…you do NOT need to lose weight for your wedding! I agree with @burghbrides that #sweatingforthewedding can be pretty toxic.

There’s soooo much planning that goes into a wedding and for me weight loss wasn’t worth the stress. Over the years I’ve gained confidence in my curves and try to have a body positive mindset. I have given myself grace for gaining weight during Covid. I love food! My husband and I first bonded over a mutual love of eating at different restaurants & he’s a really good cook!

Do I wish my arms & back weren’t so chubby in the first photo? Yes! Do I wish my face was thinner & my chin wasn’t so flabby in most of the photos? Yes! Did I feel self conscious at all about my body on my wedding day? No, because I married someone who loves me for me and not my weight! I loved my dress and I was surrounded by friends and family that made me feel amazing! But it has taken a lot of work over many years to be comfortable in my genes!

HOW TO STOP OVERTHINKING.
I’m not perfect (duh) and I definitely fall into the pattern of overthinking my desires and decisions. In my experience, I’ve found there are 3 things I can do to shake this habit off.
Here they are:
1️⃣ Stop caring about what others think - y’all it’s cancer season and time to do you and for me that means I’m gonna be out here showing all the skin and saying all the things that I want to, no filter! Get ready! You with me?
2️⃣ MOVE and get into ACTION- literally just do one thing that will move you closer to your goal. Just one, that will then lead you to another and then another.
This trip that I took here I was literally going back and forth deciding on where we could stay and what we would do and I was like eff it, hotel booked, done, let’s go!!
3️⃣ KNOW WHAT YOU WANT - this is a biggie and it can be so hard because your judgement and what you want can be clouded by what you think others want but it’s your time sis, let’s only do what you want, make moves and get it going!
I share these tips with you so that you can stop overthinking what you really want.
While being a bride, we often try to please everyone. But by doing this we lose ourselves and this isn’t healthy AT ALL!

A destination wedding in Greece….yes please!!!!
