“Before I moved to Portland, I didn’t know how to take care of my mental health. I’d only been to a therapist once when I was 20 after my best friend had passed away. My mom is an immigrant from Thailand, and my dad’s from the baby-boomer generation. Culturally and generationally, going to a doctor to help you with your “mental problems” was seen as kind of a joke in my family. Whilst taking care of my mental health is new, it has become one of the most important things in my life. Sometimes I have reservations, I have this uncomfortable idea that people can use their “mental health issues” as a crutch. I never want to do that, I never want to use it as an excuse to not hold myself accountable.” - @lmheinsdale - Issue 6, The Mental Health Edition .
