Gumband Meditation I

Where I come from, we call a rubber band a gumband, a down-to-earth name for a mundane object whose flexibility offers a powerful range of visual expressions. If stamping with a simple rubber loop, in concert with a few odds and ends—screws, cookie cutters, birthday balloons—can evoke fruits and flowers, clouds and birds, writing and weaving–then what other potentials for creativity might we be overlooking in our everyday lives?
