the iconic golden-globe nominated film legally blonde (2001) begins with the opening song “perfect day” by hoku playing. us viewers learn that this is indeed meant to be a perfect day for elle, largely due to the fact that she thinks her boyfriend will be proposing to her that very night. however we learn that this was in fact not the case. to her shock elle is instead broken up with by her boyfriend, breaking her heart and thus setting off a chain of events that results in the eventual maturation and growth of elle’s character. this is in juxtaposition with the ending of the film where the chorus of “perfect day” starts playing once again at her graduation, after her speech as the elected class speaker, as her family and new friends cheer her on with a standing ovation. unlike the beginning of the movie this ‘perfect day’ is centered around elle having achieved an accomplishment that reflects her determination, perseverance, and hard work and is not centered around her love life defining her self worth. nonetheless the last bit of information we are given as song “perfect day” reaches its peak is that her current longtime boyfriend is planning on proposing to her that very night, but this time completely unbeknownst to elle, signifying a full circle of events from the film’s beginning. in this essay i will

ID: two screenshots from legally blonde. the first has nigel’s head pasted over warner’s, and it says “you became a pirate captain?” the second has stede’s head pasted over elle’s and says “what, like it’s hard?” it is AWESOME. End ID.
