OMFG! Obi-Wan might have always thought of Anakin as his brother, but for Anakin, Obi-Wan had always been his father, the one he never had. (And Obi-Wan knows it because Anakin told him.) Obviously, the granddaughter remark may look like a funny quip at his ‘old and haggard look’, but the bittersweet tragedy is that OBI-WAN TRULY IS LEIA’S REAL GRANDFATHER in every sense of that word. Even more so, because to a Padawan, his Master represents a father figure.
So when Obi-Wan gives that startled ‘what’, he realises that Leia is right and, for a second, he fears she might have somehow sensed the connection between them, once again seeing past his Jedi mask and the shroud of his secretiveness to uncover the truth without realising it herself.
It’s not an uncle energy that Obi-wan exudes, IT’S BEEN GRANDPAPA ENERGY ALL ALONG.
It’s a real Force dream! The Force is showing Obi-Wan parts of Anakin’s life he couldn’t have seen with his own eyes - he witnesses Anakin fighting with the Trade Federation droids and starfighters and destroying their flagship, he also sees Anakin in his cockpit trying to save his life in the Battle of Coruscant.
It is not merely that he’s been haunted by his memories of Anakin, the Force actually gives him more of them, more memories to never forget about the man he loved the most in the world - the man he believes he failed and could not save.
