Two of my designs for Smogon’s recent CAP project, where they’re going all out to create three starters. Their typings are Fire/Ground, Water/Bug, and Grass/Electric, but I only managed to draw the former two. Based on shooting stars / star-nosed moles, and diving beetles / atlas mythos respectively. Neither won but the bugger reached top three, so that was nice.

Been itching go create an ogre species for some time, but things were going slow since my concept just ended up looking like a classic ogre except in a Pokemon style. CalagrianKnight on one of the fakemon discords I frequent cooked up the idea of a lizard using its own severed tail as a weapon, and was kind enough to let me use that feature for this concept, so many thanks!

Names: Instinct+Skink, Troglodyte+Bite, Ogre+Overhaul

Notable moves: Crunch, Knock Off, Pursuit, Parting Shot, Dragon Tail, Dragon Hammer, Outrage, Autotomize, Hammer Arm, Superpower, Iron Head, Heavy Slam

Started out as a design about moles and making mountains out of molehills, but I felt it needed an additional element to it. After giving the last stage a hat, it sort of continued from there. First stage’s name is self explanatory, last stage is Mountain + Mitre +  Mountmartre.

Notable moves: Earth Power, Power Gem, Dazzling Gleam, Moonblast, Wish, Healing Wish, Trick Room, Calm Mind, Thunderbolt, Charge Beam, Focus Blast, Stealth Rock.

Have another bird design, based on quills, scrolls, ink pencils, and books, and secretary birds. Along with the writing theme, this design is also a take on the same concept that Smogon tackled some time ago for one of their own CAP creations Necturna: a Pokemon that can learn the move Sketch once. Which is why the base stats are way lower and more equal overall than my usual style, can always revisit them in the future if the stats undercompensates for the trait of choosing whatever move it wants.

Names: Scholar+Lark and Fairytale+Air+Tail

Notable moves: Sketch (once), Dazzling Gleam, Play Rough, Air Slash, Brave Bird, Defog, Swords Dance, Calm Mind, Agility, Roost.

Oh right, forgot to post this one. One virus evolving into another, the fever ridden base stage year

Oh right, forgot to post this one. One virus evolving into another, the fever ridden base stage yearns to be cold, which triggers quite an unusal metamorphosis! Last stage has a bit of icepicks and skii gear thrown in as well alongside the bacteriophage design, somehow wish I could’ve bridged the two a bit better but I went with a thematic connection than a visual one this time. Might have been too greedy with the Magic Guard ability, but I couldn’t make a design like this without ignoring the threat of Stealth Rocks.

Names: Fever+Virus and Icicle+Sicken

Notable moves: Ice Beam, Freeze Dry, Icicle Crash, Ice Shard, Icicle Spear, Signal Beam, Lunge, U-turn, Leech Life, Fell Stinger, Flash Cannon, Dazzling Gleam, Sludge Bomb, Giga Drain

Gonna make a note that I’d also like to give it Tail Glow, but might be too much for a mon that’s fast and can easily afford a Focus Sash, who knows.

A design that I managed to churn out quickly, based on dynamite sticks and rat kings (see lower corner). Final stage definitely ended up too cartoonish for its own good, guess I’ll have to live with that.

Notable moves:
Crunch, Foul Play, Power Trip, Dark Pulse, Nasty Plot, Parting Shot, Burn Up, Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Flare Blitz, Fire Lash, Will-O-Wisp, Explosion, Dazzling Gleam, Sludge Bomb, Gunk Shot

Most of the time, elemental stones only evolve Pokemon of the same typing, with the only exception thus far being the Eevee family. With this concept, I wanted to break away from that. The middle stage is struggling to keep out the cold and could sure appreciate to generate heat of its own, all it takes is a spark to get the process going (note the matches on its head). With the fire stone acting as that spark, the flames becomes part of itself, thus transforming it into a fiersome protector of the forest. Or maybe a wildfire passed by and it simply refused to fall to it, I need to finalise my dex entries one of these days.

Names come from Fawn+Forest, Tinder+Deer, and Elk+Kindle.

Notable moves: Flare Blitz, Blaze Kick, Flame Charge, Wood Hammer, Horn Leech, Wild Charge, Double-Edge, Head Smash, Jump Kick, Earthquake, Burn Up, Will-O-Wisp, Morning Sun.

Peacocks are great, so it’s only natural that it has been used as base for other fakemon artists, some of them turning out really cool. Dreamcatchers are also prime material for this endeavor, and given how plenty of them are adorned with feathers, incorporating one into a bird felt like a natural approach, and peacock fit the bill (heh) just nicely. I rarely make new abilities since I want to work with what’s available, but given the lore behind dreamcatchers, along with the fact that this species would really hate the move Pursuit, then it had both a reason and a cause.

Names comes from Peck+Necklace and Peacock+Charm.

Notable moves: Psychic, Psyshock, Future Sight, Miracle Eye, Hypnosis, Calm Mind, Shadow Ball, Hex, Will-o-Wisp, Destiny Bond, Mean Look, Roost, Tailwind, Defog, Moonblast

Notable lack of moves: Cannot learn any Dark type moves.

Edited: Changed the name of the base stage.

Its stunning intelligence is envied even among Psychic-types. The rings along its horn glow when it powers up with electricity, before it zaps its enemies with blasts of lightning from the shining tip.

My submission for Smogon’s CAP 28, which is so far a Bug/Dragon with Neutralizing Gas and Compound Eyes. I obviously dipped back into the same well as Draborate for treehopper + dragon, but this one also takes elements from dragons in fairy tales that lock princesses in towers. It’s both the dragon and the tower!
