Genuinely one of the funniest video game characters ever to me I remember sitting there listening to his entire routine and laughing so hard that I started drooling
oh the off-script riffing here is super good and i love that they didn’t adjust the subtitles. ding dong
Honestly thinking of how much shit makes sense ever since my bf explained to me that that Bethesda, home of Bethesda softworks, is a real place in Maryland and also essentially a gated community
Also Chris Avellone went to school with Todd Howard??? Like the Fallout development hole truly does bottom out in actual hell
If anyone’s not clear why this little trivia about Bethesda is so revealing to me: it just helps a lot with understanding the writing choices that we so often criticize in Fallout. The way they write racism, the way they write addiction, the way they write politics and actual slavery and historical allegories like… this isn’t even to mention the smug, self-satisfied misanthropy of it all either.
All of it smacks so much of the creative direction you’d expect from affluent suburbanites, who have Never in their real lives brushed up against any experiences that don’t align with their own, deciding to write about The Apocalypse.
It’s no wonder they can’t conceive of optimism or beauty among wasteland communities; all they see in Fallout is the destruction of their ivy league, white collar, white picket fence world. The wasteland’s potential is irrelevant to those in charge of Fallout because it’s a world that is decidedly not, and can never be, the same as the one currently centered around them.
