In an interview before his cancer diagnosis George Perez talked about all the celebrities he based the Teen Titans on when he was drawing the series. Among them was Mickey Rooney (back when he was making the Andy Hardy movies) as Garfield Logan. As Judy Garland was the model for Mary Marvel and did a number of Teen comedies in the 40s with Mickey Rooney I was inspired to make this fan art

Apparently the God awful Captain America movie serial from 1944 was originally supposed to be a Mr. Scarlet serial, which makes sense as Republic Pictures had previously made Fawcett characters Captain Marvel and Spy-Smasher into film serials previously but Republic backed out when Republic Pictures released that Mr. Scarlet had become the B-story in Fawcett’s Wow comics to Mary Marvel.
