Throwback Thursday with an often overlooked fic of mine.
I was tired of stories with Zelda having a breakdown when she first comes back to the place where her powers awake. It’s nothing wrong with that per se, but an overdone trope often results in my writing senses tingling… So…
I believe that botw is about finding hope in a world burned to ash so I wrote my take on it.
I recently re-read A Warrior Dancebytwoseason AO3, and I still can’t get over how much I love it. Definitely one of my favorite fics ever. I had to show it some appreciation with a few sketches of Din in his formal ritual combat getup blacks doing cool staff poses.

“God,” Magnus laughs, shaking his head. He wonders if his longing can be heard through time. “Catarina and Ragnor always insisted that I made you up, but I told them you were real. Either they will kick themselves when I tell them later, or they’ll have me institutionalised. One can’t be sure.”
Alec, his impossible Alec, turns to look at him, his body still bent over the railings. His smile is fond and sleepy, like he’s been stolen out of a moment just before bed. It makes Magnus’ heart skip a beat.
“How long has it been?” Alec asks.
“One-hundred and seventy two years. Give or take a few, I’m sure. I might have lost a decade around the turn of the century through no fault but my own.”
Alec whistles a low note and looks back out across the city. The nighttime toys with the shadows that stretch and pool upon the mismatched rooftops: wells of deep purple and blue and odds with this glow of orange that seems infinite and ephemeral in the same moment, fading into the sky like a halo. Upon Alec’s skin, the colour is exquisite. It makes his eyes simmer with a gentle opal-dark fire.
“That’s a long time,” Alec says quietly, “I’m sorry.”
“Sorry? You have nothing to be sorry for. You can’t control it, the magic is volatile. You said so yourself.”
“A hundred and seventy years is a long time to go without seeing someone.”

In his years of being a wedding planner, Magnus has had some weird requests –including, but not limited to: a nudist ceremony, a dress made entirely of balloons, an underwater service and, on one memorable occasion, a wedding entirely designed to join in holy matrimony two drooling bulldogs adorned in matching suits.
In retrospect, and considering all the ludicrous demands they have received over the years, being asked to put together a ceremony on the docks outside a frankly dubious looking Chinese restaurant isn’t the most bizarre thing he has heard.
Being asked out by the groom, though, undeniably takes the crown.
It’s audition day for High School Musical , and to say Carlos is nervous, would be an understatement. Miss Jenn gave him a shot, and he is notgoing to mess it up. He is going to be the best damn student choreographer ever. He even color-coded the audition sides (blue for Troy, orange for Gabriella, purple for Ms. Darbus, pink for Sharpay). He’s sorting through them and stapling the packets together when someone approaches his table.
“Excuse me?” The voice is soft and tinged with nerves.
Carlos whirls around to find the source of the voice, a blonde boy with big Disney Princess eyes (even behind his glasses), and a small, shy smile.
Carlos raises an eyebrow. “Can I help you?”
“Oh,” he stutters slightly, as though he forgot what he wanted. “I was just wondering if you knew when auditions were going to start.”

Long long ago, high in the blue mountains, a pack of wolves had been tasked by forgotten gods to watch over their sacred wood. For generations, the pack did not hunger or thirst nor tire, propelled only by their duty, their destiny.
And then man came, climbing into the mountains with their iron weapons and their fire and snares. The wolves fought back and drove the men back to the vallies below. Fearful they would return, the pack leader, a wolf known as Vesemir went to the witch in the woods and struck a deal. If she would cast a spell over the wood, protecting it from the evil hearts of men, the wolves would do her hunting for her.
The deal was struck but to Vesemir, she gave a warning. One day, yellow flowers would bloom under the Elder Tree and when it did, one of his sons would be lost to the snow drift.
He thought nothing of this since flowers couldn’t bloom when it snowed, not this high in the mountains. His sons would be safe. Their home too.
