#filming locations

LIVE

Sad news from my favorite spanish filming location. Obviously, the iconic rock from “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly” collapsed a few days ago, due to a lot of rain. :( Some parts are still there but i doesn’t look like in the movie anymore.

This is the last photo i took last October. I visited this spot several times over the years and did a little bit cosplay there. RIP to my favorite filming location.

cackle’s academy references

since my minecraft cackle’s castle project started, i’ve been collecting references of the various filming locations. they’re pretty cool so i’ll show you what i’ve got!

Hohenzollern Castle in Germany is the castle used for aerial view. they also use it for B-roll footage between scenes, always showing extras rather than main cast walking between buildings (presumably because it was easier to get local extras rather than fly the cast to Germany!)

the majority of the filming was done in the UK in Cheshire though, at Peckforton Castle. it’s funny because the architectural style of both is completely different - i.e. Hohenzollern has spires, everything is much closer together and taller, it has multiple levels and slopes rather than being on the flat, and,,, yeah. it’s wild!

Peckforton is a mediaeval-style building (though constructed in the mid-19th century like the current Hohenzollern). it’s not nearly as old as it seems!

today it’s used as a hotel and WEDDING VENUE. yes, you can get married at cackle’s academy! (p.s. anyone want to get fake/real gay married to me?)

you’ll recognise the iconic keep entrance here, which is in many shots! also possibly interesting to note that that central structure is where the s1 hall is! (notice the protruding window section matching in the picture below)

it’s often filled with wedding furniture in the shots i’ve found online, but it’s still so familiar and lovely to see how it’s used daily

this video in particular was SO helpful in working out how things connect up! it blew my mind when i learnt that the long corridor with wooden panelling came out of the back of the hall!

there are quite a number of videos on youtube that people have taken for various reasons, and they can be pretty useful!

because it’s a wedding venue and hotel, there are so many photos of the interior! like this staircase that’s used quite often from different angles. it’s fascinating to see it from this one (to me, anyway)!

to see more like these, i have a pinterest board where i’ve saved the best from the 1900-odd guest photos on tripadvisor which you’re free to check out if you ever have the need! will add more as i consolidate my reference folder

Despite some changes taking place since The Lost Boys hit the screens, the boardwalk is still an iconic vacation spot for many of the fans!

The Santa Cruz Boardwalk opened in 1907 and is California’s oldest surviving amusement park. It extends along the coast of Monterey Bay from the Santa Cruz Municipal Wharf south to the mouth of the San Lorenzo River. The Looff Carousel and Giant Dipper as seen in the movie were both listed as National Historic Landmarks in 1987.

“Everyone you see in those boardwalk scenes are extras, and in some shots you’ve got all the rides going in the background. Those poor people had to stay on those rides for many takes at a time” - Steve Laporte [Makeup Artist] ⁣

“Shooting on the boardwalk was like being in a boyband! Honest to god, there were thousands upon thousands of bystanders every night. We would be doing our scenes and riding our bikes up and down the boardwalk, the whole time being watched by thousands of people” Alex Winter [Marko]⁣

⁣“The first time any of it really hit me was during the carousel scene at the beginning of the movie. When we were in those costumes and the whole area was just smoked up to give it a really cinematic look, that was the first time that I thought to myself “man..we’re actually filming a really big Hollywood movie”. There was something dreamlike about being with the other Lost boys under the lights of the boardwalk at night” - Brooke McCarter [Paul] ⁣

Cobra Kai Filming Locations; Day Three

okay you guys, I FINALLY GOT A LEAD!!! I only visited a few new locations today but I finally got some info on where they might be actually filming so tomorrow I’m going there and camping out all day in hopes of seeing something. Some guy literally saw Martin Kove just hanging out there the other day on set and got a picture with him, so the possibilities are really endless if we stay there long enough. Anyways, here’s where I went today!

Golf N’ Stuff — 1675 GA-85, Fayetteville, GA

probably the coolest location of the day! unfortunately this place is closed on weekdays but it actually ended up working well for us since it was deserted and the gates were open so we had free roam to take pictures. everything looked just like the show!!

Lakewood Diner — 2885 Lakewood Ave SW, Atlanta, GA 30315

this is the diner that Miguel and Johnny ate at together. we didn’t go inside cuz it was kinda sketchy but it’s located at the same strip mall as the CK dojo so we actually found it on accident, we didn’t even hunt it down lol

Original Cobra Kai Dojo — 2033 Metropolitan Parkway SW, Atlanta, GA

same as the diner, this was right around the corner from the other CK dojo so we found it without even trying and noticed it’s resemblance. not in a great area but the building was recognizable by its shape i guess.

Cemetery (Mr. Miyagi’s Grave) — 1680 Westview Dr SW, Atlanta, GA

this cemetery is gigantic so we’d never be able to find the actual grave that Daniel went to, but we did drive through and grab a picture knowing that it was there somewhere LOL.

anyways that’s all for today!! Hopefully something crazy exciting happens tomorrow when I visit Lithia Springs as it’s said that’s where their base camp for filming is right now. Tomorrow is supposed to be wrap day for the entire season unless they randomly had to extend it, but I assume everyone would be there to celebrate for the final day of filming so. See y’all tomorrow!

Cobra Kai Filming Locations; Day Two

hello and welcome to more of my filming locations!! still no run-ins with the cast, i literally have found the sets for Stranger Things, Raising Dion, First Kill, Legacies, and Naomi so far but not Cobra Kai anyways here’s some more locations

‘Cobra Kai’ Dojo — 2779 Lakewood Avenue SW, Atlanta, GA

so this one was difficult for us to tell which part of the building was actually the dojo considering their sign wasn’t there but we did eventually figure it out lmao, the interior looks just like it however it’s actually filmed on a soundstage and it’s modeled after the original building so it looks identical but it’s not where they film. the exterior part is tho!

that park where the kids plot to ruin yasmine’s party — 3201 MLK Jr. Dr. Atlanta, GA

the pic we got of this is like the exact shot from the show and it was super cool, it’s literally just a playground right in front of the building used for the S1 highschool but yeah!

The Mall — 2050 Lawrenceville Highway, Decatur, GA

unfortunately the mall is completely shut down inside with the exception of a few stores so we had to get in through the movie theater entrance and we could only get a picture from that side of the hall as the rest of the mall was blocked off completely, so we couldn’t get into the food court where most of the mall scenes were filmed :( the security even said the comic book store would open at 12pm but we tried to go in at 12:05 and the doors were still locked and nobody was there so.. major bad luck on this location but at least we still got a picture.

Canyon Party — 2455 Costley Mill Road NE, Conyers, GA

this spot was really exciting to me for some reason lmao, it looked just like it but the sizing is so crazy it looks gigantic on tv but the area was sooo small. they were actually filming Legacies here when we arrived but luckily this area was open for us to get pictures of still.

The Country Club — 740 Clifton Road, Atlanta, GA

coming here was awkward because they told us we weren’t allowed in without a membership so we had to drive through the gate and then snap a picture while moving and then turn through the parking lot and leave so not the best spot either but at least i got a pic

that was it for today, I’ll update y’all on whatever we find tomorrow!!!

so im heading to Georgia next month to stalk Cobra Kai filming before they wrap on April 15th. I’ll be updating y’all with pictures of locations and hopefully I’ll find them filming I’m so excited lmao

Riverview Hospital
Coquitlam, BC, Canada April 2014

This abandoned mental hospital is a filming location for Supernatural, X-Files, Smallville and many, many other productions. We went there three times during our stay in Vancouver to get some sceneframing photos

The area is way bigger than we expected. There are several hospital buildings surrounded by old trees, roads and pathways and even though it’s all very beautiful, there’s also a very spooky element to it all.

Maybe it’s because we’ve watched too many horror movies, but being surrounded by absolute silence and dark, empty windows in a place like this just gave us nonstop goosebumps.

We even tried to peek in some of the windows but the fear of someone looking back at you or grabbing your wrist, not to mention the old curtains moving around in the wind and all the reflections on the window glass… wow. It was just a bit too much.

We were told there’s still some patients living in the area and that we should be respectful of that, but we never saw anyone and all the buildings on the lot just didn’t seem good for anyone to live in. In fact, we started to doubt if the lady who told us about the patients was even real…
