LIVE

rewatching the episode where kakashi and gai are fighting the two ninja swordsmen from kiri and tell me why they started reminiscing in the middle of the battle? there is a time and a place for everything. your lives were on the line. i think you can hold off on being gay for a few minutes.

yes it is confirmed that kakashi and gai spend every minute together in their retirement

i love how gai was like “yeah i think we should stop the rivalry so you can focus on your job as ninja president” and kakashi literally goes “bro. we’re not stopping. this is the only thing keeping me sane.”

headcanon: between kakashi and gai, kakashi is the one who shows much more pda.

yes, gai is the one that always proclaims his love and admiration for his beloved rival but once they actually get together? kakashi cannot wait to show people that they’re a couple.

i mean he could barely contain himself before they were even official.

the whole division is facing the enemy and yet…

kakashi only cares about gai.

when gai asks if kakashi wants to meet naruto after not seeing him for so long, he responds with this.

and he sees naruto as his son. that type of utmost trust, even in front of another official captain of team seven (yamato)… that’s almost as if he’s acknowledging gai is naruto’s other dad.

and then there’s also this.

kakashi could’ve said it in the private moment the two of them had together just moments earlier but no. he just has to say it loud enough for yamato and aoba to hear.

and in the kazekage rescue mission, look at that very pointed glance. not subtle at all.

baki didn’t ask for this. relax.

and how can we forget about this.

rin was literally right there. i know she was sick of seeing this gay behavior.

during his mission to infiltrate the uchiha district, he just had to hang out with gai of all people.

he chose mr. maito not-stealthy-at-all gai as his cover, feeling completely comfortable to show how affectionate they are. he could’ve chosen another anbu or someone better suited for infiltration but no.

then the war ends, they get together. this is where it gets sickeningly unbearable.

during “the last”, kakashi has gai right there with him on the commanding podium. gai, who’s already retired from being an active shinobi, is right there with the hokage among other very important people. this proves just about how much gai means to him and he’s not shy from letting other people know.

the moon is either going to crash into earth or blowing up, both very hard decisions to make and face the consequences of. kakashi wants gai there with him when it happens.

years later, when kakashi finally retires and go on that legendary vacation with gai, poor mirai is the one facing it all.

kakashi is the one constantly bringing up their time together. the bull-headed shrike story? the tempura? the festival?

even the damn villains cannot catch a break.

“the recklessly strong man is not me”. recklessly strong. you are here to fight people, kakashi. you don’t have to show them that you’re head over heels for your husband.

kakashi is so whipped.

kakashi and gai talking about their body counts when kakashi realizes gai attracts literal super villains.

gai: so yeah that’s about it! but they didn’t mean even nearly as much of a fraction of how much you mean to me. you will always be my-

kakashi: sorry can we go back to the part where you slept with half of the bingo book?

ok so i headcanon that a majority of konoha ppl around gai’s age actually have a crush on him at some point in their lives but they were just too embarrassed to ever say it out loud to anyone. like wow this man yeah he wears green and orange and he speaks in flowery words and ppl generally laugh at him but he’s so strong and kind and funny and wow… i have a crush. but its something i will take with me to my grave.

the only one who was never shy about it is kakashi. he just doesnt talk to ppl so nobody knows. not even gai until after the war and kakashi just cooly admits “yeah ive loved you since we were literal kids dude”

itachi having his little crush on gai is so cute

bonus: someone’s jealous

as much as i love every kakagai trope, my favorite headcanon is that they get together after the war.

during kakashi’s anbu days, gai loves kakashi too much and it would’ve killed them both (literally and figuratively).

kakashi’s team was short one member (soon to be filled in by itachi).

it was also around this time that gai really sees kakashi’s depression and asks to join anbu, despite knowing all of its secrecies and how much it wears down on people. gai knows it’s a risky move but he decides to go forward regardless only for kakashi’s sake.

When turned down by hiruzen, gai says this:

gai is selfless to a fault, and he is willing to go to such extreme lengths for kakashi. that kind of mindset is not healthy at all and their dynamic then would’ve been very toxic for both of them. i love reading good angst, but truthfully, gai would’ve died in kakashi’s place, trying to protect him. of course he would still do it later on, but at this point they were not strong enough to be invincible, and gai’s view of death is still based on his father’s sacrifice (see my other post for a better elaboration).

and if he did get hurt or die, it would’ve killed kakashi.

on the mission where kakashi and itachi shadow gai’s team, kakashi is so glad to be the one in the shadow doing dirty work just so gai can be a happy, straightforward, and kind shinobi.

if kakashi ever finds out gai tries joining anbu for him, what would he think? and even worse, if gai dies while in anbu, kakashi will probably never recover. his moniker “friend killer kakashi” already weighs on him heavily, but if he truly loses gai… he will spend the rest of his life (if he even lives for much longer after that) blaming himself, and this time there is nobody like gai around to even tell him it’s not his fault.

kakashi showing the full range of his emotions only to gai/ in gai’s presence.

adoration

lovesick

compassion

competitiveness

regret

shock/ anger

gratitude

anyways there’s a bunch more and this is just a few of many!

gai is arguably the best jonin-sensei in naruto

Disclaimer: this is not to say that Gai is a perfect teacher, or that other Jonin-senseis didn’t try their best. All I’m saying is that Gai is the most suited for this job and there couldn’t have been another Jonin in the Naruto world that is more passionate about nurturing the next generation.

Gai genuinely cares about his students’ dreams and aspirations and does everything in his power to help them achieve it.

Gai is the only sensei that asked his team what their dreams are. Even with dreams that are often deemed unrealistic like Lee’s, Gai doesn’t discourage it. He motivates Lee but at the same time acknowledges the difficulties that will come along with such a huge goal. Clearly, he’s both realistic and ambitious, an anchor that grounds his students but doesn’t hold them back from their true potential.

And when Tenten wants to discover different specialties, Gai encourages it all, even going out of his way to ask others to aid his student in her search.

When she’s discouraged because things don’t work out, he’s there to offer words of strength and lets her know her efforts aren’t futile.

Gai cares about his students’ emotional well-being, not just physical health (even though it is true that he places emphasis on it)

In the Chuunin Exam arc, when Neji almost killed Hinata, Gai is among the Jonin that held him back, and it is clear that they’ve talked about the Hyuga family before. It’s a sensitive topic that Neji doesn’t tell just about anyone, so for him to open up to Gai about it means he trusts his sensei enough to be vulnerable.

As for Lee and Tenten, he’s always their biggest support but it’s evident throughout the series and the previous point so I won’t elaborate further.

Gai cares about all of the kids, not just his students

This point really sets him apart from everyone else. Each of the sensei cares about their students deeply, but the affection Gai holds for other kids weighs heavily.

He’s deeply concerned about Naruto’s general well-being, wanting to help him and protect him.

In fact, he doesn’t mind going against the village’s rule if it means he can help the kids in some way.

And then there’s him giving food to Choji, despite scolding him on the surface.

So, yeah, the man has his flaws, but you can’t convince me that there’s a better-suited shinobi to be a jonin-sensei <3

kakagaibouquet:

canon kakagai things i can’t believe are real

  • kakashi’s only moment of outright laughter (not just his usual chuckles) is during that challenge with gai when he almost became hokage
  • kakashi taking his mask off to eat in front of gai when usually he just eats so fast that people can’t even tell until he’s already done
  • gai calling kakashi his “man of destiny” just like kushina called minato
  • gai showing his frustration during rehab only to kakashi
  • gai setting his emergency contact to kakashi (his SOS turtle)
  • kakashi using the phrase “springtime of youth” to cheer gai up
  • gai giving kakashi a bouquet of flowers that symbolizes eternal devotion to someone (this is still insane to me)
  • them going from fighting back to back to sleeping back to back, futons pushed so close their blankets overlap
  • kakashi implying he’s willing to join a cult if it means he can heal gai’s leg
  • them going to festivals together, all the way back from when they were kids to after they retire
  • kakashi being so in sync with gai that he can fight the kiri swordsmen blind by tracing gai’s steps
  • kakashi calling gai’s name repeatedly through out the war because he’s worried (like a ridiculous amount. he didn’t even call out to naruto that much)
  • gai going to visit the icha icha sets with kakashi even though he’s shown to have no interest in the books themselves
