Gai: You have earned one Maito buck!

Neji: I don’t want it.

Gai: … You’ve been deducted 50 Maito bucks.

Neji: Make it 100.

Gai: You don’t want to earn Maito bucks?

Neji: No. In fact, I’ll give you a billion Neji nickles if you never talk to me again.

Lee: What’s the ratio of Neji nickles to Maito bucks?

Tenten: The same as the ratio of unicorns to leprechauns.

Edo Tensei

Plot: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“The HPSC is doing what?” Present Mic asked Nedzu incredulously.

Nedzu’s smile was tense. “The HPSC is concerned about the recent attack at the USJ and are choosing to intervene. A student of theirs will be transferring into Class 1-A in order to watch for a potential traitor in the school.”

.

.

.

Or, Hatake Kakashi is reincarnated into bnha with a quirk that makes even All for One look like child’s play. And in his eyes, anyone in UA could be the traitor he’s looking for.

New fic rec!

This is only one chapter so far, but all of Asteroid_Duck’s works are pretty great (I recomend checking out some their other works as well!) and the concept for this one hooked my interest pretty hard, so I feel confident in giving this one five stars even for how little I’ve seen of it so far. And don’t worry, in my experience this author usually updates pretty regularly.

I’ve always been dying for a ‘protagonist can summon Naruto ninja edo tensei style’ fic set in MHA, and the fact that the protag is Kakashi makes it instantly ten times better. I can’t wait to see where it goes…

This is another good one with a kind of similar premise, but it’s also a fanfic of a fanfic, so keep that in mind!

Maito Gai (Naruto)

How They React To Their Civilian S/O Getting Hurt

Requested by:anonymous

  • He will have heard you got hurt while giving report with his team at the Hokage Tower.
  • You think he’s normally fast running across town? Imagine that x10.
  • He busts into your newly purchased house. Add the broken door the list of repairs.
  • He will be at your side in the literal blink of an eye. I hope you don’t startle easily. He is just worried.
  • Gai will have asked you ten questions before you can even say a word. The best way to quiet him is to open your arms and motion for him to hug you. He will be awkward, trying not to hurt you more than you clearly already are.
  • “Welcome home.”
  • “What happened?” When he pulls back from the hug he has calmed down considerably but you think he might still burst into tears. You can never know for sure.
  • “I tried to fix the roof and…kinda fell off.”
  • “I was supposed to fix that when I got back!” He will not be happy that you went climbing onto the roof to fix it by yourself but he will admire how hard you are working to turn the little fixer-upper you two had purchased together into a home.
  • He will be fussing over you like crazy. Just let the man put ointment on the scratches on your face, he won’t rest easy until he does and it’s something that makes him feel better.
  • You think you’re going to lift a finger? Not until the doctors clear you and even then he is worried that you might re-injure yourself. He will open doors for you, carry any and all bags for you, and even if you’re walking really far he will want to carry you. He just does everything x10, it’s part of what you love about him.

itachi having his little crush on gai is so cute

bonus: someone’s jealous

as much as i love every kakagai trope, my favorite headcanon is that they get together after the war.

during kakashi’s anbu days, gai loves kakashi too much and it would’ve killed them both (literally and figuratively).

kakashi’s team was short one member (soon to be filled in by itachi).

it was also around this time that gai really sees kakashi’s depression and asks to join anbu, despite knowing all of its secrecies and how much it wears down on people. gai knows it’s a risky move but he decides to go forward regardless only for kakashi’s sake.

When turned down by hiruzen, gai says this:

gai is selfless to a fault, and he is willing to go to such extreme lengths for kakashi. that kind of mindset is not healthy at all and their dynamic then would’ve been very toxic for both of them. i love reading good angst, but truthfully, gai would’ve died in kakashi’s place, trying to protect him. of course he would still do it later on, but at this point they were not strong enough to be invincible, and gai’s view of death is still based on his father’s sacrifice (see my other post for a better elaboration).

and if he did get hurt or die, it would’ve killed kakashi.

on the mission where kakashi and itachi shadow gai’s team, kakashi is so glad to be the one in the shadow doing dirty work just so gai can be a happy, straightforward, and kind shinobi.

if kakashi ever finds out gai tries joining anbu for him, what would he think? and even worse, if gai dies while in anbu, kakashi will probably never recover. his moniker “friend killer kakashi” already weighs on him heavily, but if he truly loses gai… he will spend the rest of his life (if he even lives for much longer after that) blaming himself, and this time there is nobody like gai around to even tell him it’s not his fault.

gai is just as self-destructive as kakashi

Gai is so self-destructive it makes me mad. Then I get more pissed thinking about how he’s always seen as a symbol of positivity and youth when he’s also in a rush to die.

Let’s talk about this scene.

For the very early part in his life, he questions this spirit of youth that Dai often talks about. Then when he finally understands, he interprets it as a cause worth sacrificing for. Note how he equates self-sacrificing with honoring something he believes it, which is one of the earliest signs that show Gai seeing martyrdom as an act of love.

And then Dai opened the Eighth Gate, which only solidifies his belief.

Fast forward to the Chuunin exam in Konoha Crush. When Lee’s faced with a dilemma (either risking death or giving up his ninja dream), Gai’s solution is to promise that he will die with Lee if the surgery fails.

Okay…? Gai, I love you more than words can explain, but who the hell is this supposed to help? Sure, it can be a temporary solution to help your student feel less alone, but it’s clearly not a healthy response. Gai talks about death lightly and clearly views him dying with Lee his devotion to the kid, but ultimately it doesn’t help anyone but pain others around him. What about Neji, Tenten, Kakashi, and so many other people who cares about him (Gai)? Dying for someone is not a healthy love language, and especially not for someone whose jutsu literally tears him apart whenever he uses it.

Speaking of the gates, which Gai inherits from his father and treasures as a family heirloom, Gai has a very unhealthy attachment to them. He passes them on to Lee believing that they will help the boy achieve his dreams. And sure, that sounds like the most viable option for someone who’s unable to use genjutsu and taijutsu. But what about Gai?

Gai is only shown to be unskilled with ninjutsu and genjutsu, but he’s able to use them. He’s able to summon Ningame and does so with ease.

But he continues to use the Gates almost exclusively, even if their repercussions leave him in so much pain he cannot even withstand as much as a poke.

And Gai is a hard worker. It’s not like he can’t train his ninjutsu and genjutsu to be better so he can use them in battle - he can if he must. But he insists on using the Gates as a stubborn proof to the world that his father was capable, even at the cost of Gai’s own discomfort and almost his life.

Then Gai himself decides to open the Eighth gate.

Who does he think of?

His father.

Gai must have seen it as a full-circle moment, happily going out the way his dad did. But this shouldn’t be the case. He shouldn’t have been living waiting for the day he can die “honorably”. He shouldn’t have been waiting to die at all. And yet, he hones his body for this exact moment when he quite literally lights himself on fire inside out in the name of martyrdom.

He clearly hasn’t been coping very well with his father’s death at all. Kakashi understands this, and for years he resents his friend for using such a destructive jutsu - their very brief yet no less serious argument during the Chuunin exam shows it all. And then Gai survives against all odds, but it doesn’t take away the fact that he is a hypocrite for thinking Kakashi is unyouthful for years while jumping at a chance to die any minute he can.

Anyways I love Gai a lot.

Kakashi’s Love Language

One of the most common critiques I’ve seen towards Kakagai is that Kakashi doesn’t care about Gai, or he only does so on a surface level (out of duty to a fellow shinobi of the village). However, we also know that Kakashi puts up multiple barriers between himself and other people to refrain from getting hurt the way Sakumo’s, Obito’s, and Rin’s death hurt him, maintaining an aloof demeanor to detach himself from everything. However, there are multiple instances where Gai remains the few/ sole exception to these walls Kakashi puts up.

It is obvious that Kakashi’s love language isn’t physical touch or words of affirmation. It becomes clear later on that it is quality time - and who does Kakashi spend time with the most? Gai.

Even in his worst moments, Kakashi still tolerates and accepts Gai’s challenges and presence in his life. Of course, on the one hand, we have Gai’s restless pursuits, but this is Kakashi. He can easily shake off Gai and cut off contact with him if he truly wants to. But he doesn’t. As a matter of fact, he doesn’t only accept sparring challenges, but also the silly ones like Rock-Paper-Scissors that have nothing to do with furthering their skills as a shinobi.

They were even spending time together at a festival when Kurama attacked the village.

And later on, when Kakashi almost becomes Hokage and Gai proposes that they stop their challenges so that Kakashi can focus on his job, Kakashi is the one that opposes it.

Challenges aren’t the only time they spend time together. It is shown that Kakashi and Gai deliberately spend time together as friends, and Gai trusts Kakashi enough to confide his doubts about his father’s youth in him, and Kakashi trusts Gai enough to let his guards down and show his admiration.

In his retirement, when Kakashi can finally freely do whatever he whats, he chooses to spend time going on vacation with Gai and not anyone else. He could’ve gone by himself, but he chose to go with Gai and reminisce their past together.

He even pushes their futon together so that they can lie side by side (look at the way their blankets overlap).

So yes, Kakashi clearly does care about Gai more than he does for most people. He just shows it in a very roundabout way because, well, he’s Hatake Kakashi.

Obito warns Madara that Gai looks dumb and stupid and ugly but not to underestimate him because he’s jacked as fuck and Madaras like “ok” but then sees the man Obito is referring to and it’s the sexiest creature Madara has ever seen before in his two lives and he says that to Obito which makes Obito finally abandon Madaras will because Obito has objectively horrible taste and opinions . Madara asks for Gais only fans after their epic and testosterone filled battle but Gai can’t give it to him because he’s been turned into burnt toast

Someone says something even remotely negative about Maito Gai and the will it takes it me not to start the most heated argument this realm has ever known tears apart the fabric of my existence and leaves me but a spec of enraged dust to fly across the skies as the wind manhandles what’s left of me. You’re killing me. You’re committing murder. Stop
