#garashir fanfic

LIVE

It’s been quite a while since I contributed anything to AO3, but after receiving some kudos and comments on a podfic I recorded some years ago, decided I wanted to go back and (finally!) record the third part of an incredible series set in the Deep Dish Nine AU.

“Complementing Baggage” comes after “Disconnect”and“Splice” in the “Rewiring” series (link to storiesandpodfics) and like those two, packs a powerful emotional punch. (If you’re a fan of “The Wire,” this series is required reading, even if you’ve never delved into the AU.)

I have so far posted 2 chapters of the story’s 16 (original fic is 36K words) and will post another soon. I will be adding chapters every few days.

TW: mention (no explicit details) of past childhood abuse.

P.S. Thank you VERY much to @tinsnip@kittyknowsthingsand@ladyyatexel for allowing me to recorded and of course for their amazing writing. This series is honestly one of the most powerful DS9 fics I know of.

So I’m again having an urge to write a Garashir song fic, possibly a series, based on Depeche Mode songs (think Violator, Songs of Faith and Donation, that era). Set both in regular universe and in Deep Dish Nine AU. Convince me I should? Haven’t written Garashir or any fanfic for ages.

What should I write?

I haven’t written any long Garashir fanfic in almost 2 years, just some shorter ones. I was avoiding startomg any “sagas” or major multiparty because I had stories commissioned for publication. somehow I thought not writing fanfiction would make me write the non-fanfic faster. Not really true!

Anyway, over time I’ve developed several story ideas, some of which are more fleshed out than others. Thoughts?

- Post-Cardassia story in which Garak and Bashir become lovers, although not in s conventional sense, as Garak reveals he’s asexual. (This one is all plotted.)

- Sisko brings “Great British Bake Show” to DS9 as a morale booster and much hilarity and drama ensues. Nog is surprisingly good, Garak is meticulous, Julian is clueless, Miles is foolishly confident, Jake wants to please dad, etc. Will there he a soggy bottom?

- Some kind of story involving a Cardassia from a desert tribe, equatorial, with dark skin and who’ve managed to retain some cultural identity despite age-old policies of homogenization, language eradication. He ends up in Cardassia City.

- Deep Dish Nine story where boyfriends Garak and Bashir have a new neighbor in the building, who they discover is former Stasi, East German secret police. (This was inspired by a visit to the Stasi Museum in Berlin l, which is in the actually agency HQ, and subsequently reading about it. It kept making me think Obsidian Order, meaning it was an inspiration.)

- Russian antique dealer from 20th century, who grew up under Soviets, through some kind of time travel, ends up on DS9, where she opens a shop selling galactic antiques, though mostly jewelry. Her shop is next to Garak and they become acquainted. They end up doing s lit club ala Garak and Bashir, except she’s passing off Russian lit. There’s be discussions of Chekhov, Gogol and a few other Russian authors I know well enough. (This ides is whacked, but I keep wanting it.)

- Series of Garashir song fics built around The Cure, Depeche Mode, The Smiths / Morissey. Stuff like “Shame,” “Walking in My Shoes,” “In Your Room,” “Inbetween Days,” “Late Night, Maudlin St.” Basically, a self-indulgent Gen-X fic filled mostly with kind goth angst.

- Letter-fic of Bashir replying to Garak’s “letter” (A Stitch in Time) with a long (but not even novella length) reply if his own, equally revealing. Like ASIT, would switch between present and past.

Any of these strike any interesting?

Hopelessly Gen-X,

Wendy

Thanks to everyone who responded on this.  Just what I was needing! My inclination was to go with the “asexual Garak” story and it looks like that’s the favorite.

Wendy

It must be five years since I posted this. I did write the story based on Garak being asexual (“Affection”) but didn’t go forward with any of the others. I’ve been thinking lately about writing something. Any favorites?

More baggage!

I’m finally in the home stretch on this! Length so far: 3 hours. And this is the -third- part of this series I’ve recorded. I think the whole thing together must be about 10 hours. You could do a road trip with me, Garak, Julian a whole lot of angst.

Anyway, this latest chapter is lonnnng! It basically consists of two major scenes, each a chapter’s worth, and a shorter one at the end. My favorite part about doing this chapter was voicing Miles. I do his voice in a way that it sounds like him without doing an Irish accent. I’ve apparently got “gruff” down.

Wendy

Hard to believe, but yes, I’m actually going to finish this podfic recording. I dropped off a couple of months ago, no doubt because of the major work promotion I received in late June which put a monkey wrench in a whole lot of things. But I did keep the fic as an open tab on my iPad the entire time, nagging me, and finally it worked. Enjoy!
