Julian and Garak’s Book Club Challenge
Okay- I lied, and I will issue a formal challenge because I think it’ll be fun. If you are a Garashir content creator, I am challenging you to write/draw/sing/interpretive dance Julian and Garak discussing a specific piece of media with a caveat:
- Theycannot be Shakespeare or Jane Austen (including specific productions or movies like 10 Things I Hate About You orCluelessor the Kenneth Branagh Hamlet)
- This caveat is basically just for fun- I’d love to see more variety in the things this book club reads and watches. You’re also welcome to ignore me, lol
It can be as long or as short as you want it to be, but it mustinclude a direct discussion of a specific piece of media.
Types of Media that docount:
- Novels/Novellas/ Short Stories
- Plays/Screenplays
- Movies/Holomovies
- Dance Performances (please link to a video if you’re picking a performance)
- Fictional Media (books that only exist in the Star Trek Universe or books that couldexist in the Star Trek Universe. If you want to write them reacting to a Breen Folktale or something I support that)
- Songs/Poems
I’m tagging a few writers in the fandom that I know and love the work of, but I’m sure I’m missing people. So feel free to tag other people or to just do it for fun!
Last note: if you do decide to do this, I’d love to be @’d in your post :)

(Also, you guys can feel free to just ignore this if you don’t want to)
I wasn’t tagged, but this popped immediately into my head and I had to share.

“I dare say, you should have offered some warning when you recommended it, doctor. It nearly brought me to tears.”
“It… did?” Bashir slowly put down his spoon. “Which part, exactly?”
“Oh, all of it, certainly. But there’s something to be said of the grim irony of the dance in the final chapter: Swan’s leg may be broken, but it is Cullen who has been hobbled.”
“Hobbled–?”
“I was surprised to find so blatant a morality tale among human literature. Particularly one decrying the danger of sentiment.”
“Garak, it’s a lovestory.”
“Aren’t you always going on about the popularity of the unreliable narrator as a device? Swan may interpret the affair as a romance, but all evidence shows that she is his undoing. Before their meeting Cullen had a decades-long career without discovery, and within a few short months of meeting her he is nearly exposed a half dozen times over, he’s dragged into unnecessary territory disputes, and his family is forced to flee their home. He is compromised.” He stabs his own utensil at Bashir in emphasis. “I can see why it sparked some controversy in its time.”
“Really?” Bashir said dryly. “And you don’t think it had anything to do with Cullen breaking into her room at night and watching her sleep?”
Garak flashed a toothy smile. “My dear doctor. Whatever would be objectionable about that? You certainly didn’t seem to mind.”
It was always so lovely watching the young doctor blush.
Gonna be honest. All the new Andy Robinson quotes from Destination Star Trek London really have me frothing at the mouth, quite rabid. Going truly bananas over here!
Councilman garak and his husband the wonderful doctor julian bashir celebrate their 15th anniversary
In the DS9 panel yesterday Alexander Siddig said about Julian Bashir’s likely future: “He’s a retired doctor somewhere or working in an NGO or maybe catching butterflies with Garak!”
I discovered that some of the arc of “Call to Arms” and the start of Season 6 was done as an official novelisation (Dominion War Book 2). They expanded the Julian and Garak Infirmary scene, and it’s cute.
I am here for Garak helping in the Infirmary and trying to stop Julian from overworking himself <3
- Julian Bashir: meets new person, completely flustered, immediately accuses him of being a spy for his people. Smooth.
- The thing he does with his hand when the plant gets in his face!
- No but seriously these two are adorable. I remember wanting much, much more screentime for these two than they ever got, the first time I watched this series.
- And then he runs straight to Ops to tell everyone! Ahaha I love you Julian.
- Dax: “What do you think he might want from YOU, Julian?” *straight face* Oh, she knows…
- Watching this on Netflix. Not even gonna click Skip Intro cuz I love the opening song so much.
- I forgot about Kira and Sisko butting heads early on. I love how the relationships of this show evolve.
- Lursa and B'Etor! The somewhat random TNG cameos continue! Bring them on, I say!
- Okay Sisko gets his reputation as the Daddy because Bashir and everyone else always runs to him like, “Ah this scary thing happened what do I do!?”
- Garak guiding Bashir through the first steps of spy-dom awww~
- Joranian ostrich!? Haha gotta love the Star Trek trope that is “name something from Earth and put an alien word in front of it because this is THE FUTURE!!” If you do that today your audience would roll its eyes but with Classic Trek it’s just quaint and adorable. (I mean you can still roll your eyes but it’s also quaint and adorable)
- But really, Kira and Odo’s relationship is laid out so perfectly in this scene. They have so much mutual respect for each other and take strength from each other’s presence and I’m so here for it for the whole ride.
- Why are the character interactions so much more interesting to watch than the actual terrorist plot of the episode? Good writing that’s why!
