Because now having seen him, I think X is just Y having been exposed to extradimensional energy and spent years in another dimension only to atemporally arrive here recently, but I don’t have anyone to share the theory with. X = Kjarl Thotep, Y = Dimitri Vapnoople
I mean, it feels almost too obvious so I’m not sure. Their builds are even extremely similar, Kjarl’s is just an inflated version.
(And I think he IS legitimately good now, not pretending for subversion purposes, but I’d understand if not. Him having been the one to heal his own mind after not recognizing himself, so he’d hop in the portal and become himself, is just delicious Homestucky time shenanigans.)
I don’t expect to keep having Girl Genius theories or start classpecting it so don’t bug me to make more Xo

Quite a mess:Gil caught the goldfish, locals are terrified (Agatha already know who will be responsible for this accident), Dolokhov tries to reach Gil (with his four arms!), Baron seems to be unimpressed and not surprised at all.
There’s a cannister of phlogysten (a fire-like substance - you can read about it’s theory here) and a book titled “How I Do It?”. Indeed, it’s a good question.
The filing system is really easy - it’s all in one, icluding one terrified goldfish, a cactus (it’s always nice to have green plants in the workplace), louse notes, books and black paint right above Gil’s head.
Gil growing Skifander canines on Castle Wulfenbach? “Coincidentally” having a nasty fall around the time his second tooth comes in and requiring mouth surgery that just so happens to reduce his teeth to normal size? Let’s discuss.

also [pauses to check ao3] why is there no fic about the conversation after agatha leaves where theo and sleipnir are like “so uh thanks for the help but why are you being friendly after years of radio silence” and gil is like “oh someone was intercepting my mail, i thought you were all ignoring me” and then hopefully everybody hugs and they all agree to have a party to celebrate gil coming home so he can tell them all about paris and hear about everything he missed while he was away
look at him. he’s so happy. he loves his friends so much and they’re talking to him again and they’re happy to see him and then he spends the rest of the comic alone and friendless and in actual experienced time mostly possessed by his dad and literally all he wants in life is to have friends who care about him and every time he makes friends in either sense they get taken away LET GIL HAVE FRIENDS DAMMIT
i can’t stop thinking about this. i said it like half joking but the more i think about it the more i think it might literally just be true. look at his life so far.
he had tarvek as a friend but was demonstrably still unhappy, see: the whole determination to find out about his family thing
found out who his father was but lost his only friend and was probably left with the impression tarvek had never actually really been his friend in the first place and was just using him all along
was so lonely he broke through and made himself a friend, who he may or may not have then been required to hide if klaus thought hiding zoing was safer than trying to find a cover for him
became friends with theo & company eventually but had to hide his spark and couldn’t tell them about his father and as a result also couldn’t actually talk about what happened with tarvek
got sent off to paris where he still couldn’t tell anyone who he was or that he was a spark, and none of his old friends responded to his letters
canonically resigned himself to bachelorhood bc he sincerely believed he would never find a “real partner” who he could “really talk to about things [he] was working on—ideas—” who would actually be able to understand
came back, was acknowledged by his father but still ignored by all his friends (except zoing)
met agatha, realized she was a spark and could keep up with him and would be willing to work with him and hopefully be his friend if he could stop sticking his foot in his mouth
realized all his friends totally did still care about him
i think that panel is literally no exaggeration the happiest gil has ever been in his entire life and i’m really upset
