So I picked this girl up as a tag-along in a lot that I bought predominantly to get a JLY 10. Here are the facts:
- Josefina mold with medium skin
- Brown hair with subtle highlights
- Pinwheel brown eyes
- Part is on the wrong side for JLY 68:
- Her hair also seems to be the wrong length, extending past her butt when 68’s catalogue photography shows a more waist-length wig:
- Wig is the wrong thickness and style to be Marisol, and she’s a ziptie neck and 2017 body tag anyway
seriously, this is one of the most disappointing wigs I have ever had the misfortune of interacting with on a doll; it arrived super tangled to the point of near-matted and it’s so thin and the layers so drastic it’s hard to imagine it holding any style well
- No CYO foot stamp
- No MCM butt mark
So help a bitch out… who is this??? 68 with a wig error? Does the factory often put wigs on backwards and forget to cut them? I don’t think it’s a replacement as based on the state of the dolls when I got them I doubt their original owner even has a hairbrush for them, much less the kind of know-how necessary to replace wigs
This is Joss Kendrick, Girl of the Year 2020! The nose and lips are the features of her mold that stand out most to me.
It really doesn’t help for identification that she looks quite different from her early stock photos. The stock photos from her later items, such as her Beach Jumper, grill, and Ultimate Collection, better resemble the actual doll.

I must say I agree about her wig. The layers are so drastic that doing anything with it is very difficult. In used condition, it’s even more difficult. It’s a very pretty wig to look at, but is quite frustrating to style.
I don’t know if it’s mentioned an any promotional material but Gwen and Corinne both have Chinese names in addition to the names they go by most of the time
Gwynn’s is Guang and Corinne’s is Mei-Ling
just thought i’d share that for people who like keeping track of characters full names and name meanings, and bc i like that they bothered to give them Chinese names
I can’t say for certain, as I don’t have the book myself, but someone said that the second book confirms that their Chinese names are also their middle names! I thought this was neat.

I went to get Mom’s phone to take some pictures. But then I saw the wedding photographer shooting candids of all the dancers, and I realized there would be plenty of photos. Note: Kaya’s story takes place in a vague area, and the Nimiipuu lived in what is now Idaho, Oregon and Washington. Celilo Falls was mentioned a bit in her books, which is the border between Oregon and Washington; for simplicity’s sake, she was placed in Washington.
I understand the confusion due to similar spelling, but both names really are entirely different!
McKenna is an English feminine name, ultimately from the Gaelic (Irish/Scottish) name Cináed meaning “born of fire.” [went from CináedtoCionaodhtoMac Cionaodha to McKenna] It is pronounced Mick-KEHN-uh.
Makenais a unisex Kikuyu (Kenyan/Tanzanian) name, meaning “happy one.” It is pronounced Muh-KEE-nuh.
Is it kinda weird that they have a very similar spelling which could be a bit confusing for the younger audience? Yes, especially since they also just trademarked the name “Gwynn” while Gwen is an existing doll. However, Makena and McKenna are from two entirely different sources- meanwhile, Gwynn/Gwen are both from the Welsh “Gwyn”, and we have several characters whose names are derived from “Mary” (Marie-Grace, Molly, Maryellen, and to a lesser degree Josefina, whose full name is María Josefina) and “Helen” (Nellie, Maryellen again, Lanie).
This isn’t the first time they’ve had similar doll names and it won’t be the last, but this one is actually two different names and not variations of the same one! One is Gaelic and one is Kikuyu, which are verydifferent cultures!
also folks, if we’re really that worried about the target audience of 7-12 year olds, please remember that they were between the ages of -2 and 3 when McKenna Brooks was last available to purchase, and likely have little to no memory of her as a character
It’s finally here!!! I’ve waited ten years for this moment, I’m truly living a childhood dream.
First off, this thing is HUGE- not to mention heavy. It took four people to lift this into my car. Pictures don’t do this thing justice at all.
Now let’s go inside for the tour!!
I was very happy to see that the inside is in pretty good condition. Sets with a lot of stickers tend to be gunky, but Lanie’s camper was almost perfect. I took down the poster stickers on the bed as they were curling, and they’re currently being pressed flat in a thick book.
Lanie’s seat opens up for extra storage. I found a stash of nerf darts hidden in there while setting it up!!
The cork board can be turned into a bed. The camper did not come with Lanie’s sleeping bag, so I’ll have to hunt it down second hand. The bed is also a prime sleeping spot for my two cats! I had to shoo them away in order to take photos.
Here’s a close up on the kitchen island!! As you can see, Lanie quite likes bread.
There’s also a shower!! I honestly think this is a really cool feature for an AG house type structure. Bathrooms are something that often gets overlooked in dollhouses, and it infuriated me so much as a kid.
This is everything that the camper came with!! I’ll be looking for the missing parts second hand. I also got a piece from Grace’s bakery, which has also been offered to me for free.
I didn’t get these with the camper, but they came with my Lanie, so I thought I’d add them in!!
From a quick Google search (which could totally be wrong) the etymology of the last name Tan is Asian (looking through the Google results it seems as though Tan is mostly of both Chinese and Turkish origin?). We could possibly be getting two GOTYs of colour for 2022!!
i’ve wanted jess forever but she’s always priced so high! after months of looking, i found her at a reasonable price and ordered her in december. now she’s here and i couldn’t be happier!! (kanani is confused: “she looks like me!”)
there’s only so much i can do with kananis short hair (thanks to 8 year old me). but i put it in space buns and i think she looks adorable ! we’re waiting for thursday when i send her to the doll hospital!!
