How To Host A Girl Walk // All DayScreening

Here at Girl Walk HQ, we get a lot of emails asking if a person, organization or venue can host a screening. The answer is YES! Here’s how to go about it.

Find a venue: The first step is to reach out and find a venue you think would be a good fit*. We’ve shown the film indoors and outdoors at venues from 50 people to 2,000+ people, so it’s really about the night of the week and how many people you think you can pull in your town/city. If it’s warm, also consider outdoor screenings in public parts of town. Make sure the venue has at least 1 large screen installed in the venue – the bigger the better – and a good PA system. Or, make sure you are able to provide both of these elements.

Make it Yours: In the screenings we have produced, we work to create unique, immersive events that are venue-specific to each location. If a space is loft-like or gallery-like with big, white walls, think about having multiple projections at once. Consider what a pre-show might look like: other videos? Local dancers/dance troupes doing a live performance? A DJ'ed dance party right after the film? Sparklers? Anything you can dream up is oin the table. Straightforward screenings are also a-okay; we just don’t want you to feel limited. For inspiration and other examples, check out some of our past eventsandphotos of screenings

The Nitty Gritty: Once these pieces are in place, let us know what you have in mind, and we can work through administrative / event fees and other event logistics.

Getting You The Film + Getting the Word Out: We then provide you with the film either on Blu-ray, HD Cam, or as a hi-res digital download. (We discourage you from screening from a DVD). We also provide an official press release, hi-res film stills and a logo to help with promotion of your event. Lastly, we help publicize the event through our social media channels (twitter, facebook, instagram) and active newsletter base, though we do look to the host to lead the majority of the PR efforts for your own local audience.

OK! So, are you ready to plan a Girl Walk screening? Get in touch with us at [email protected]

*Previous venues include: courtyards, public parks, the beach, art galleries, lofts, restaurants, concert venues, movie theaters, football fields, outdoors on a giant screen in the middle of a fjord, projected on the underside of a bridge, etc.

In their year-end countdown, Slate calls Girl Walk // All Day the #1 web video of 2012 (ahead of Mitt’s 47% debacle). What a way to end a magnificent year. Thanks to everyone for their energy, excitement and groovy dance moves in 2012. We <3 you all!

The San Francisco Film Critics Circle awards Girl Walk // All Day a Special Citation for being the most under-appreciated independent cinema of the year.

This Jacob Krupnick film turns an already-lively album of pop and hip hop mashups into a joyous celebration of music, dance and community shot guerilla style on the streets on New York City.

We’re pleased to make a short list of award winners that also features Moonrise Kingdom, Argo, andThe Master

The official New York Times review is in! They call Girl Walk // All Day an “urban fantasia” and “undeniably exhilarating.” (!!!)

The dancers are splendid (as is Mr. Krupnick’s camera work), with Ms. Marsen a particularly delightful, tireless and sometimes impudent sprite in her quasi-tutu and sneakers. Spike Jonze’s “Weapon of Choice” video (the one with Christopher Walken) meets “On the Town” in this urban fantasia, and the result is exhausting but undeniably exhilarating.

Hello all,

We hope you and all of your loved ones affected by Hurricane Sandy are safe and doing well. We know many have been through a lot of turmoil this week, including losing homes, power, water, heat and more, and the Girl Walk team sends lots of love from cast and crew members scattered around NYC.

DUMBO was hit hard by the hurricane, with many businesses, offices and public spaces getting badly flooded, but reRun has decided the show must go on. So, they’re firing up the theater, the bar and offering their fantastic gourmet popcorn for a full week of Girl Walk screenings. We hope you’ll come enjoy the warmth of the theater, and embrace the city through our film.
